The Zuck suck is in full swing. In the few short hours since I started using #Threads, #DuckDuckGo has already blocked over 200 data tracking attempts. These include things like "headphone status" and "screen density."

EDIT for clarity: The 200+ attempts *may* have been overcounted as DDG hadn't tooled their VPN for Threads yet.

Since my post about the #DuckDuckGo app and #Threads is still getting lots of attention, I want to be clear about how I actually feel about #DataPrivacy. It's a lot like #recycling. Yeah it's a good thing to protect your own personal data, but if we're being honest, it's not effective on an individual scale. We need good legislation at a national level to meaningfully change the game for the benefit of us all. Until then, no matter how careful you are, you're still being negatively affected.

TikTok users are speaking critically about viral products and advocating for thoughtful shopping habits. On a platform known for driving consumption, is change even possible?

*“Most of our users are on Desktop”*

Sure, some sites are desktop only, but while mobile usage continues to grow and desktop continues to fall, it makes sense to at least dig deeper to make sure you know why you have more desktop usage.

Same goes for A/B testing. Don't rely only on the statistics, find out why A outperformed B. Sometimes the results are opposite of what you think.

CASTLE Framework for Workplace Applications UX

The HEART framework is great for B2C products but is lacking for workplace applications where users cannot choose the product. CASTLE offers a complementary assessment framework for UX that focuses on the needs of internal product teams.

I’m thinking of that “they” should make boosts and likes a limited feature. You can only boost or like two or three times a day. So that boosts and likes get more value.

Or if you are more active you can get extra boosts or extra likes. Or maybe from a monetizing perspective get a subscription for 10 boosts and likes? I dunno.

What do you think of this idea?

European Commission: 40 percent of web shops surveyed use dark patterns

Nearly forty percent of the 399 surveyed webshops use dark patterns to manipulate customers into making purchases.

Examples are: fake countdown timers; web interfaces designed to lead consumers to purchases, subscriptions or other choices; and hidden information.

Woo. Just had our heatpump boiler hybrid thingie installed. Officially gas free from now on.
And we generate 80% of our electricity ourselves. Our roof is sadly too small. And our garage is most of the day covered in shadows from trees and nearby housing.

#Design folk:
Can we get some agreement on the following hashtags?

#UX is for positive, creative content that improves our trade

#UXFail is for things that drive you crazy.

Both are fine! I'm just saying we have a chance to build a culture here and agreeing on hashtags can help.

Is this naive? Likely, but I hope we can actually 'lean in' together and make it better.

#UX good
#UXFail bad
