Day 2. #30daymapchallenge “Lines”
I was traveling across the country yesterday, so I’m sharing a snippet of the map I demoed a few weeks ago at The North American Cartographic Information Society. For the full map and a how-to for building this map, visit https://YouTube.com/SarahBell
#30DayMapChallenge Day 1: Points
I mapped the tiny pene-exclave of Point Roberts, accessible only by water or by crossing an international boundary. I chose a modified antique style. I enjoy that this little bit of the US is nesteled by our 🇨🇦 neighbors.

Thanks to those who joined our Pro-to-Illustrator mapmaking talk today at #NACIS2024 I had a great time w/ co-presenter Julia Olson and the great audience too 🗺️ Here’s where you can download Maps for Adobe:

It’s global Sleep Under the Stars Day ⭐️ #MAPstodon
Last year, I made this map showing car-accessible campgrounds & selected rock climbing locations in the US.
Map made with ArcGIS Pro, Maps for Adobe, & Illustrator.

I re-created Minard’s map of Napoleon’s disastrous advance to Moscow (1812-1813). Minard’s original map (1869) colors were gold and black. Napoleon returned from this tragic campaign with only 2% of his soldiers.

I used an ArcGIS Pro project prepared by @kennethfield then I exported from Pro & designed further in Adobe Illustrator.

Sarah Bell on Behance

I was trained in cartography at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and began my professional cartography career at the National Park Service. I then went on to work at an independent cartography company, creating maps for clients like the U.S. Forest Service, Green Trails, and the National Park Service. Following my time at that firm, I then created mapping products for community disaster recovery during my subsequent work as a data visualization designer for Western Washington University’s Resilience Institute. I now work for a mapping software company. I enjoy rock climbing and running, and I also map and visualize those activities.
