Attempting to be an anarchist, living in the hills above Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire with two cats, two guitars, some effects pedals and some modular synthesisers.
I'm a keen cook.
I DJ using a system that I built, housed in a red metal tool box - hence the username.
Am loving all the CWs and hidden content here, it's like an Advent calendar. Is it boobs or a dog with a watermelon hat? Let's find out!
I’ve been practicing for a forthcoming gig I have in #Manchester in December. Here’s a very short preview. More on my TikTok and Instagram for those into that sort of thing! (Link in bio)

Ever worked with LED grid arrays, like the #RaspberryPi Sense HAT? And perhaps wanted to simulate them in your web browser to experiment with sizes etc. before buying the hardware?

Okay, maybe the use case is kinda niche. 😏 I needed to do that, so I wrote a #JavaScript library that renders grids of glowing LEDs: https://fietkau.software/minihat

I'm working with Tyler Porter to get it into RGBMatrixEmulator, but we're both busy and the back & forth is slow. I'm sure it'll happen! https://github.com/ty-porter/RGBMatrixEmulator/issues/45

https://earth.nullschool.net/ is a FANTASTIC free resource for visualizing global atmospheric and ocean conditions, especially interesting during big weather events. Keeping my eye on it as Nicole blows closer to home. Make sure to mess with the control panel at lower left

I am three days in and, honestly, the differences are not as big as they seem
Key points:
Post an #introduction to say who you are
Use Content Warnings (CW) to mask posts that could be triggering-all political commentary, depictions of food, unsafe images, you get the point
Add text descriptions to images
Use hashtags liberally and capitalise #LIkeThis so that text readers work properly
There is no algorithm to promote posts, so boost (retweet) rather than ‘like’
This is now my moral, ethical and natural home...
Love the space....

I know I am still relatively #newhere but I do think Mastodon is a precious thing that should be supported and protected. I hope folks who've been here longer know that many of us recent (re)joiners really do care and want to make the community stronger and friendlier, rather than bringing bad habits from failed commercial networks. Some of us have been watching this and other spaces for years looking for a less toxic alternative and hoping others would make the jump too.

We come in peace. 👽🙂

If you are wondering why it’s such good news that the National Trust members have defeated the Restore Trust, stokers of the culture war with links to shady Tufton Street, read this by Brian Cathcart for Byline Times 👇

The Right-Wing Bid to Capture the National Trust Exposed

With days to go before the National Trust’s members choose its new council, the ‘Restore Trust’ group is campaigning in a manner that scarcely inspires trust. Brian Cathcart reports
