The goal isn't to protect children,
the goal is to de-anonymize every comment and action on the internet, associating it with a legal ID, by eventually requesting official identification from every adult using a computer.

Some politicians have already stated this plainly.

This leads to censorship of anyone criticizing their government.

This leads to repression of marginalized people, especially immigrants, people of color, and trans and gender diverse people.

This leads to self-censorship of any comments or actions that could be interpreted against the system. Such as speaking out against fascism and authoritarian surveillance, or defending human rights publicly.

This leads to total control of the population and its tools of communications.

This leads to the end of democracy, centralizing power even more in the hands of a few.

Do not let them do this to us.

@bryan How did I NOT know about this before?! Might switch this weekend…
Just read more about #NetBird and excited there is a totally #opensource alternative to #Tailscale. I think I need to wait for Tailscale to do something stupid before switching though. Need that outrage energy to rebuild everything with a new system.

Tailscale vs. NetBird

Looking for an alternative to Tailscale? This article provides an overview of the key differences and features that Tailscale and NetBird have to offer.

@rakekniven I answered 0 but I use passkeys as often as possible… #KeePassXC for passwords and a #Yubikey for passkeys :)
@autkin Scary stuff. I avoid the AUR unless the developers point it it explicitly. Could you get what you need from an official repository??

I’ve noticed there’s #Mastodon servers for specific regions (Europe, Canada, Australia, etc). Anyone interested in a #California instance?

I see sfba.social and norcal.social but I’m thinking a unified California server would be cool! Or at the very least, a SoCal server should exist…

@xabd I use Freetube pretty much daily. 10/10 recommend.

@badnetmask @homelab The "it depends" option even has a "..." baked into the choice, lol.

For my part, I responded that would stop using the app because of the framing of "after some time you find out it was vibe coded". In this scenario I (maybe incorrectly) assumed that I had browsed the source before using it and didn't see much if any AI code, and then later discovered that major parts of the codebase were rewritten or modified with vibe code.

@badnetmask @homelab While I appreciate your insight on not rushing to discard a new technology, I strongly disagree with your analysis of the responses you received.

"It depends" isn't an answer, it's many different answers wrapped into two words. It is vague and thus invites explanation. "It depends on _" is an answer, so people feel compelled to reply and provide a concrete response.

"Yes, absolutely" is a concrete answer. No further explanation is needed to wholly respond to the prompt.

@iquitsmoking I’ve been meaning to try raw Wireguard, but Tailscale is so convenient, effective, and non-invasive that I can’t bring myself to put in the effort.
