@jeromechoo Yeah, it's technically possible to fix, and there's already a pull request waiting for review. Can be handled just like how they recently added backfill for replies.

I'm sure it'll come at some point when people have time to test and confirm it.

Some of the "restrictions" were intentionally left as they are for historical reasons and to ensure Raspberry Pis and similar devices can host, but it doesn't have to stay that way forever, and I don't see why this particular thing couldn't become an option.

(💜 Marielle) Reminder for fedi admins who may have missed the memo: The Mastodon (and forks), Misskey (and forks), IceShrimp, Wafrn, Fedify, and Hollo development teams issued critical security releases for their software between 2026-05-20 and 2026-05-22.

I have gathared releases for well-known software and forks and put them in the post this one is quoting. If you cannot find your software, please check its repository; if no release exists, please check with the development team of your software if your software is vulnerable, and if it is, please ask if you need to your instance down until it can be patched. The vulnerability in question affects ActivityPub software that supports Linked-Data Signatures, and vulnerable instances are urged to shut down until they and their software can be patched.

Ich kämpfe im Moment auf dem Produktions-Cluster mit http-Gateway-Timeout-Fehlern und kann sie noch nicht so richtig verorten.

Davon ist auch (aber nicht nur) #Fnordon betroffen. Es könnten also manchmal Dinge etwas langsamer laden, oder erst beim zweiten Versuch.

Hoje Eugen Rochko (Gargron) lançou uma proposta (PR) para mudar a validação da criação de enquetes e permitir adicionar mídias no mesmo post.

Caso aprovada nos próximos dias, a novidade virá na versão estável do Mastodon 4.6.

20 administrators just received a polite, discreet private reminder that their copy of Mastodon or Mastodon+Glitch (since this affects both) should be upgraded.

You should be using Mastodon 4.5.10 or Mastodon+Glitch 4.5.10.

If you are using a nightly build, you should be using at minimum either 4.6.0-nightly.2026-05-21-security or 4.6.0-alpha.8+glitch.

Previous releases had serious security flaws that even “script kiddies” could exploit. Upgrade advised.

We are seeing an increased number of account signups on our #Mastodon instance. They are fake and very likely to be a part of the Russian LLM-backed campaign.

The reason for joining tends to be very broad and vague:

I'm looking to join a friendly Mastodon community and participate in discussions.

The email addresses used in these signups are valid (as they are able to verify it), but seem to be automatically generated.

The IP addresses they use either stem from a VPN, Tor exit node or a compromised webhosting thing (we do not log IP addresses - except during the registration, which is deleted once an account is approved or denied).

One positive consequence: this is really helpful to maintain our blocklist These bots end up being blocked by our pf(4) across the infrastructure.

## Important announcement We were notified by the great folks at @[email protected] that we had two accounts suspected as being part of a coordinated Russian bot network involving thousands of LLM-supported automated accounts. Upon further investigation, this suspicion seems to be correct. We have suspended the accounts immediately. Further digging in, we've found a third account, which was also suspended. In an addition, we have reported the email domains (which seem to be randomly generated) to the relevant parties. As a countermeasure, we have disabled invites on [Exquisite.social](https://exquisite.social) as they bypass account approval. We are truly sorry about this happening and will continue to battle this ludacris actor **with passion** :flan_hacker:
