🌐 Convocatoria comunidad #MeshArg

Because mastodon is like a 99% male audience, I will say this: if you have an aging mother you are in relationship with and care about, do NOT make her go through medical stuff alone. I am skilled & mean enough to fight through medical stuff and even so you would not believe how bad it is. Just accept that you cannot imagine.

I talk to a lot of people's aging moms and they are abandoned & alone even in nice families. I don't care how awkward it is, you have to try to ask them about it.

In August 2025, #Google announced ↗ that as of September 2026, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the #Android platform without first registering centrally with Google.

Today I moved https://lcwo.net/ (Learn CW Online) to a new home.

It was living on a shared hosting platform since 2008, but with the steady growth of users, I had to move on. The previous hosting (randonly?) blocked IP ranges when the server load grew too high. Not acceptable.

So I commissioned a new, beefy VPS for all of my ham radio projects and LCWO is now running smoothly on it. 82 users are logged in right now, the system load average is 0.2.

Hi Folks! I'm Erica and although I'm not new to mastodon in general, I am new to mastodon.radio. I wanted to establish a home to post stuff specific to Ham Radio and occasionally retro electronics. I'm most active on CW and the Digital modes with most of my focus on VHF and Satellite at the moment. Great to meet you all!

#introductions

Working in tech is becoming a constant source of stress for me. Every project I've been onboarded in the last two years is fraught with nonsensical code: unused imports, unreachable logic, settings that are never checked and make no sense. And every line of it has a carefully crafted comment explaining the obvious.

I used to have a blast developing for work. Now it's just sad.

I'm finally learning why many consider the native MQTT capability in #Meshtastic to be a curse in disguise.

Some nodes in town are subscribing to a private MQTT server that is widely popular in Brazil. The server doesn't enforce the zero-hop policy, so this node is waking up the regional router every time a packet is sent to LongFast... FROM ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY.

And yes, I enabled the "Ignore MQTT" option, but the packet will keep waking up the router's radio before being discarded.

My camouflaged #Meshtastic node (apparently not camouflaged enough), high in a mountain and covering multiple cities, has been stolen in less than a week.

That's why we can't have nice things 🥲

#Meshtastic and #Meshcore are the gateway drug. #Reticulum (or something similar) should be the endgame.

If we're serious about network resilience and real independence from third-party infrastructure, not just being hobbyist cool, we need a technology-agnostic convergence layer rather than depending on LoRa for everything.
