More fun with #GenerativeArt & #CreativeCoding - some more #WorkInProgress of my latest #JavaScript based project using the #p5js library

I've been tidying up and generally brightening the outputs of the algorithm. I have a bad habit of letting my colours/palette become quite dark & muted, so I wanted to do the complete opposite here!

I'm still going to spend more time refining the colours, but I like the generally chaotic clashes that are happening now...

@gynvael I’ve seen the |0 method show up a lot in the creative code community lately.

Hi scientists who create generative art šŸ‘‹
What are your favorite ressources on generative art? Especially books with nice equations and nice illustrations?

Most ressources I find are geared towards artists with little math/code background. Some of them are great and I use them for inspiration, but I'd like to go deeper on the equations side, and avoid the "what's a variable/loop" introductions.

Thanks!

@very_meanly Looks great!

Really appreciating the speed up for those filled regions though! ;)

A few more outputs from "365 Tentacles".

As usual (at least in my experience), the key to fruitful #cellularAutomata experimentation lies as much in finding interesting rules and thresholds, as it comes down to tweaking the size, shape & orientation and/or (a)symmetry of the cell neighborhood(s)...

I.e. this sequence is using an asymmetrical, partially disconnected neighborhood to create surprisingly large, stable shapes, yet complex enough to not quickly end up in homeostasis...

Note to all:

You do not have to be ā€œgoodā€ at your hobbies. You should enjoy them and the process.

I love to paint, draw, collage, I love to take photos… I’ll never sell a painting or have a photo published, but I enjoy the process.

Don’t be put off of taking up a hobby because you don’t think you’ll be any good at it. If you enjoy it, that’s enough.
