@besserwisser thank you! :>
@navi I think just the home server stripping you out and not notifying you is the best solution, doesn't require communication that needs to be implemented/handled/respected by all parties involved.
Also got Oguri Cap birthday dialogue, and it's sooo cute.

Got my first URA Finale using the Sakura Bakushin O speed spam strat.

It does actually work.

Tiny Mastodon Tip About Quote Posts  📢

If your instance is already running the newly released version Mastodon 4.4,

Know that in preparation for the full implementation, the team has included a consent setting for the upcoming Quote Post feature.

While quoting a post will not
be available as a native feature until Mastodon 4.5 later this year, it's wonderful that you can adjust if you want in or not before it even arrives!

HOW TO❓

1. From the web interface, go to "Preferences" on the right-side menu. Then click on "Other" under the "Preferences" section

2. If your instance was newly updated, you should now see an option in "Posting Defaults" for "Who can quote" (see image below) 👇

Note: If the option isn't there, your instance has not updated to the version including it yet. Be patient, it will likely be added in the weeks to come.

3. From the "Who can quote" drop-menu, you can choose either "Everyone", "Followers and mentioned users", or "Only mentioned users"

4. Once the next version is released, you will be ready for Quote Posts! No matter your choices 💪

5. Enjoy the freedom of choosing the features you wish to participate in (or not)! 😌✨

For more information on Quote Posts, you can read Mastodon's announcement blog about it here: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/02/bringing-quote-posts-to-mastodon/

#TinyMastodonTip #Mastodon #Fediverse #QuotePosts

@Em0nM4stodon This is very helpful. Thank you.

@Em0nM4stodon WAIT - there is not a NO ONE option on Who Can Quote, WTF @Gargron? At best only those you are having a conversations with can still quote-post you. Even if you do not want to be. There should be a goddam NO ONE option.

#Mastodon

@Em0nM4stodon What if I am having a conversation about my disability, @Gargron. I may feel comfortable talking to one person about it, but if that person turns out to be a dick and quote-post me to all their followers. That would be invasive. Come on. #Mastodon
@richard You could discuss sensitive topics via private mentions, they can't get boosted anyway. Although it's advised not to use them for very sensitive topics as they are not end-to-end encrypted. (And a person who turns out to be a dick could still just take screenshots of your conversation and share them.)

@richard @Em0nM4stodon @Gargron “only mentioned users”

That means only if your post mentioned someone, then these guys can quote your post. If you mention no one in your post, no one can quote it.

You tag nobody, nobody can bother you. If you tag someone and that guy is not allowed to quote your post, isn’t it a bit unfair?

@voyager @Em0nM4stodon @Gargron It also means if you are having a conversation with someone, that includes mentioning someone, and if that person turns out to be a dick they can quote-post you to their followers no matter how personal the subject matter may be.
@richard @voyager Not necessarily the option you are looking for, but in case this might help: They did announced there will be an option to withdraw (remove the right) to a quoted post at any time. So in such case, you would be able to remove this person's ability to quote your post. There are more details on this in the article linked at the end of my original post.
@Em0nM4stodon @voyager That would be super helpful. That is available at BluSky (which I only use to post my poems, my home is here at Mastodon). I have only had to use it once at BluSky, but boy was it necessary.

@richard
You do realize that if you mention someone by ID in a "private" conversation, they are now part of the conversation, right?

That's the status quo.

@voyager @Em0nM4stodon @Gargron

@voyager @Em0nM4stodon @Gargron And no it is fucking not unfair, MJ, when my own government wants to kidnap me based on my #disability and put me in a labor camp. Think before you speak.

@Em0nM4stodon I know it's a controversial feature, but I'm glad this feature is being added for it was a blocker on some people's adoption of the fediverse. I'm also glad that they've added consent features before the feature itself drops.

One less excuse for people to value corpomedia and embrace real social communities. 😎

@Em0nM4stodon An important note was forgotten, this option whether quoted posts are allowed or not, only applies within the software mastodon, all other Fediverse services can (and always could) continue to make quoted posts, no matter what mastodon users set or not.

@crossgolf_rebel
Oh, that's ... interesting

@Em0nM4stodon

@masterhajoda yes, and it's important to realise that Mastodon is not outside the Fediverse, even if they keep doing crazy things

@Em0nM4stodon

Did you just post the first real Mastodon quote?

Beautiful UI.

@crossgolf_rebel @masterhajoda @Em0nM4stodon

@paulschoe No, I haven't.
This is a function of the other Fediverse services that have always been available.
I use
#Calckey to access the Fediverse

@masterhajoda @Em0nM4stodon

But I assume that, since I am using Mastodon, it is the Mastodon UI that showed the quote post.

@crossgolf_rebel @masterhajoda @Em0nM4stodon

@paulschoe just because you look at everything through mastodon glasses doesn't make it a mastodon ;)

Mastodon has always displayed quoted posts, they just come from the other services

Mastodon just makes everything look like Mastodon. It's just not

@masterhajoda @Em0nM4stodon

I didn't know that they always showed quote posts.

I thought only since the current release.

I did know that other Fediverse platforms offer more options than Mastodon (such as making quoted posts).

Thanks

@crossgolf_rebel @masterhajoda @Em0nM4stodon

@paulschoe Mastodon does mastodon things and even Pixelfed posts look like it's mastodon there :(

Quoted posts have always been going with the
#Misskey family, but no one cared until now because MASTODON

But many other services have always been able to use quoted posts for over a decade.

@masterhajoda @Em0nM4stodon

@Em0nM4stodon Thank you for the information, just adjusted the settings.

Also, ❤️ for @ShadowJonathan, who already updated the instance I'm on! 😃

@Em0nM4stodon will be interesting how and if Eugen strongarms the other softwares of fedi to respect this.

Though it might happen. I just really hope he thought about cooperating on this with other software so it actually can work.
@Em0nM4stodon It would be really helpful to know what the default value for the setting is.
@StephanWindmueller Default values are shown in the screenshot.
@Em0nM4stodon Thank you. May I suggest to add this information to the text, too?
@StephanWindmueller The problem is this could vary per instance and change with full implementation of Mastodon 4.5, so I'm reluctant to add this in the post at this point without more complete information, as it might not be fully accurate for everyone. And if I add all of this context, then it becomes a whole article and not a single Mastodon post.
