My brilliant friend Anna - she of Anna’s Flower Farm - has a new substack called (cleverly) Floral Notes, and her latest is all about decorating your house for winter using foliage: it might inspire you to take snips on your next stroll and make a foraged wreath! https://open.substack.com/pub/annaflowers/p/decorating-at-christmas 🎄✨#foraging #christmas #decorations #horticulture #gardening #growyourown
Decorating at Christmas

And how to do so when you don't have a stately grounds to gather from

Evidence that dogs are NPCs:
- Always perform the same greeting when you walk into their room
- On walks, they stand around breathing at you until you perform an interaction, such as giving them an item from your bag?
- Take you on optional side quests through a narrow gap in some bushes
- Interacting with them has a 25% chance of triggering a rewarding cut scene
For anyone in or close to #cambridge - we have released a few more tables (for 3,4 or 5 people) at Vanderlyle during December. If you’re still looking for somewhere for a pre-Christmas celebration or (mini-office party!) join us for a nine-course, #vegetable focussed menu. To book, go here: https://www.exploretock.com/vanderlyle
Vanderlyle - Cambridge, ENGLAND

Vanderlyle is a small restaurant in Cambridge that works directly with farmers, growers and producers to create ingredient-centric dishes and drinks. Headed by chefs Alex Rushmer and Lawrence Butler, Vanderlyle’s focus is on acting sustainably: both for our team’s wellbeing and for our environment. We source local, ethical and regenerative produce where possible, and use them to create a plant-led tasting menu and matched drinks that are driven by the seasons, and our suppliers.

Right. Time to do this a bit early this year for... reasons.

People grumbling that #Mastodon is slow at the moment... You just turned up with 1 million people in a tiny, rural village and you're complaining there's a queue to get into the only tearoom, which is run by gay pensioners Babs & Maureen as a retirement hobby on Mons-Weds. Relax!

Today’s soup recommendation is Smitten Kitchen’s cosy cabbage and faro, which I picked up from @annehelen substack’s megachat on soups (another unexpected benefit of subscribing to her brilliant newsletter!) it has very few ingredients other than cabbage and sounds 😬 - but is unbelievably delicious https://smittenkitchen.com/2019/01/cozy-cabbage-and-farro-soup/ #SoupToot #SoupSeason #Soup 🍜
cozy cabbage and farro soup

A toasty, cozy winter soup that’s so much more than the sum of its parts. A finish of lemon, olive oil, parmesan, and black pepper makes it zip.

I’m going to miss those single-serving bots like Redwall Feasts, BoschBot, House Hunters Plots and British Gardens. I hope someone remembers to feed them 😬

Being interviewed by @annehelen in her Culture Study newsletter is an absolute honour!

I loved her smart and generous questions – they're the reason why there's so much new here, even for people who've read my previous pieces https://annehelen.substack.com/p/how-did-we-get-so-obsessed-with-streaks

How Did We Get So Obsessed with Streaks?

Feeling very daft as bought a sofa chair without measuring it, and it turns out the reason it was a total bargain because it is a Large Behemoth: now struggling to get it through cottage door. There’s centimetres in it, which is deeply frustrating but am DETERMINED. Next step: unscrew the door #pivot
