An easy and delicious #breakfast is fried eggs with dates:

Slice up some dates (one and a half per egg), and melt a little butter in a pan (we use Earth Balance) to cook them a bit on medium heat. Then crack an egg on top of each pile of dates and fry the way you like your eggs, runny or hard. Sprinkle a bit of cardamom on top and eat with a hunk of buttered bread. Sweet and savory!

Dismantling Christmas, listening to Sisters of Mercy, on a rainy day. I’m surprisingly happy, probably because I have help.

What I’ve read in 2023. Will keep adding to this thread.

Book 1: “What Can I Say? A Kid’s Guide to Super-Useful Social Skills to Help You Get Along and Express Yourself” by Catherine Newman, illustrated by Debbie Fong.

Most of my nieces and nephews are too old for this now, but I’m always interested in this kind of book to give other kids in my life. The illustrations definitely make it, and the writing is approachable. There’s another book called “How To Be a Person”.

“Netherfield Park is let at last!”

Every New Year’s Day, I put the BBC’s #PrideAndPrejudice on. Just have it going in the background as I putter around.

Was gonna post before the new year but oh well. #VideoGames continue to help me through the pandemic. And finding a #PS5 in early 2021 was a good way to get back into them (from a PS3).

The only game I haven’t finished here is Sekiro. Someday, I hope…

So here’s my first #EmbroideryComic! Well, just one silent panel. But I love it! I’ve finally learned part of surviving #Seattle winters is to embrace all the activities that are specific to the season: drinking lots of chai, reading, guilt-free napping and staying inside. Now out in this week’s Seattle Gay News.

I took a workshop with #GarethBrookes when he visited for #ShortRun this year. Lovely man, makes stunning comics with #embroidery, #pyrography (with a soldering iron), and other unusual means. They let us take home supplies and Gareth was very encouraging about us using embroidery in our own #comics. I love when artists are open and generous with sharing their skills. "If The Marks Are Perfect, How Can You Relate To Them?": An Interview with Gareth Brookes - The Comics Journal

Gareth Brookes may be responsible for the first comic about historical medieval plagues that was inspired by a real life Drake related Tik Tok craze, and if he's not, he's certainly responsible for the first one to be made utilizing pyrography. Joe Decie catches up with the cartoonist about why Brookes keeps attacking the page...and whether he can even stop himself at this point.

For those need it: “Encounter” by Czesław Miłosz

We were riding through frozen fields in a wagon at dawn.
A red wing rose in the darkness.

And suddenly a hare ran across the road.
One of us pointed to it with his hand.

That was long ago. Today neither of them is alive,
Not the hare, nor the man who made the gesture.

O my love, where are they, where are they going
The flash of a hand, streak of movement, rustle of pebbles.
I ask not out of sorrow, but in wonder.

Quick and dirty #ComicStrip of the robins mashing down on the holly tree this morning. There’s a ton just flying back and forth. Usually it’s Stellar’s Jays at this time of year.

If you’re looking for a fun #BoardGame that up to 4 can play, ages 8+, and has enough strategy without dragging on too long, I really like Otrio. First saw this at a Hanukkah party and was immediately taken. You don’t have to hold as many possibilities simultaneously in your head like with Set, but it’s something similar in a less headache-y way. More fun with more people.
