My thinking on what must happen to save democracy has evolved.
Fact: The United States has been a backsliding democracy for some time.
Fact: We are in an information disruption.
Because democracy requires facts and an educated population, the question is whether enough people will develop the media literacy needed in this new age of information quickly enough.

How much time we have depends on what happens in the next election.
If the Democrats win again with small margins, the backsliding can be stalled.
If the Democrats win big, the we will buy more time. There were not big enough majorities in the Senate in 2020 to do much, and then the Democrats lost the house.
I am putting together a long reading list for my blog.
Even countries that slide into authoritarianism can (and have) gotten out without war.

The GOP wants lawyers and judges, not doctors, to decide healthcare in the US.
Right now, they are focusing on limiting women’s healthcare, but if they succeed in setting laws that limit healthcare choices for women, they can succeed in limiting other freedoms for US women.

Being the only ruling party was always the goal.
This absurd analysis would require throwing out *most* FDA drug approvals. Few drugs ever have a requirement that providers report all adverse events.
That the FDA required it for mifepristone shows how they were *stricter* with mifepristone approval than the law requires.
If what happened in #Tennessee today had happened in France you’d already have millions of people in the streets.
Honest Q: Why do you think millions of people aren’t already in the streets tonight in the US?
There must be protest marches across the U.S. for these two expelled brothers.
