A Republican in Florida's Legislature has filed a bill that, if enacted, would eliminate the Florida Democratic Party.

Abolish states’ rights

@shantini yeah, I honestly don't see us as a country so much as a federation—a mix of semi-autonomous progressive states and corrupt theocracies, loosely collected under an increasingly impotent central government.

Hence why I'm never comfortable attributing American innovation to our system of government. We've been innovating with an arm and a leg tied behind our back. So much human potential has been wasted—just crushed—because of the backwardness of the other side of America.

@shantini I dunno, we could end up stuck with Florida's laws.
@pixel @shantini Abolishing states’ rights is about the dumbest shit imaginable from a human rights perspective
@shantini totally true especially when you consider what's happening in TN right now 🙃😢
@shantini this, plus what they are doing in Tennessee. Completely fascist, AND racist expelling the black Democrat leaders.
@shantini The irony is that this would also cancel the Republican party. "Involuntary servitude" could easily be applied to using convict labor which I'm almost certain that Republicans in Florida have advocated for in the past (if not currently.) Not that this will ever get passed, but if it did, it'd be an accidental murder-suicide.
@splatt9990 this was exactly my thought!

@shantini
No, the goal is simply to point out the disconnect. No one expects this to pass.

"The San Francisco Board of Education recently decided to rename 44 of its schools named after prominent figures with ties to racism, sexism and slavery."

This seems to fall in line with such decisions. Shouldn't we be glad to rid ourselves of political parties that supported slavery? Isn't this far overdue? Shouldn't we topple and burn anything related to those parties?
