I’ve had two really good parent interviews today. They can be absolutely heart rending, hearing how mothers feel forced into unsafe feeding practices like watering down the formula they give the baby, racking up debt to pay for formula that they will struggle to pay back, and skipping meals themselves to prioritise the children. Most of these people are working families.
They are going hungry, yet they are still reluctant to consider to food banks because they feel that they would be taking away from people who are in “real” need. They miss out on universal credit and healthy eating vouchers because they are in work, but by the time they’ve paid the essential bills there’s just not enough left for food.
Too many people are struggling like this.
