I feel a little guilty (while people are going hungry) sharing the beautiful flowers that the family organized for my MIL's 91st birthday dinner (we didn't attend, but I made the cake topper to match) but the florist did SUCH an exquisite job that I had to show them side by side with the matching colors. #NDBProjectLaser #Handmade #Maker #LaserCutter
It's been a while since I shared an acrylic cake topper that I've made. Here's one for my MIL who turns 91 early next month. The peacock because of her ties to India, and our family always does something international if we can. The colors however are autumn colors - because November. I call it a Turcock. :) She turns 91. We aren't driving down to the dinner, so this is our offering in lieu of ourselves. We did attend her 90th. #NDBProjectLaser #handmade #maker #lasercutter
For a break from the end of times, I just squeaked in on time with the Swiftie cake topper for little girl turning 13. I would redo a few things next time (I plan to re-do this and perfect it) and FYI it's not MY design. I didn't have time for that. But I converted a common swiftie design into a laser cutting file and did the acrylic of course. #LaserCut #Maker #Handmade #CakeTopper #Playtime #NDBProjectLaser
I realize I've been so incensed at all going on since last year, that I've not shared my playtime stuff with you for eons. Here's the final cake topper I made for a friend's son last fall. It's a mash up of Spiderman and Link (from Zelda) and I had loads of fun making it. :) I didn't have time to get good photos of it. As usual I was pushing it to the very last minute. ;) I'm working on a VERY PINK Taylor Swift topper now for his Swiftie sister. :) #NDBProjectLaser #LaserCut #Maker #Handmade
In the continued "how insane can I get on my laser cutter" here's a test cut out for a mash up of Spiderman and Link (Zelda) and the little bits you see on tray? NOT scrap. I would actually cut out laser bits that small - yes tip of a fingernail size - to inlay. I am definitely rethinking this though. After looking at the cut outs, I have decided that I will join some of the smaller bits up together. This is for neighbor boy's birthday in September. #LaserCut #Maker #IamInsane #NDBProjectLaser
Worked some more on the Harry Potter cake topper today. Getting happier with it. Made the owl with the number (age) 9 on the envelope. Cheated by purchasing an Etsy SVG for the happy birthday as I'm running out of time. I do quite like the plain black text with the more elaborate topper. But still chewing my pencil over this. Need to cut out and put in the TINY black windows still. I like the graphic look of it all.

Starting to experiment in inlaid colors. I originally had the turrets in smoke grey, which I did like, but that started to look a bit ominous for a little boy's birthday. Not sure I'm happy with the frosted daffodil turrets version though. But this will be trial and error (and limited by what acrylic sheets I have on hand. :)) That said I have a LOT of colors. <g> I'm an acryloholic.

Starting a Harry Potter topper. Planning large Hogwarts in center, with HP icons around it. First test cut and some lines are thin. Must remember the laser melts more acrylic than test cardboard. BUT I often work with whisper thin lines, enjoy the challenge. Let's see if I break anything when I inlay.

Not my original design (I'm in a rush so I got illustration from www.vecteezy.com). Then I redesigned & converted it to cut on the laser.

Just had a request for a quickie Spiderman cake topper. :) I've made it modular now, so I can spit out the spiderman and age separately and not have to spend any time updating the illustrator file. :) I joked they can use the topper for his 36th and 63rd birthdays both. <grin>

Wondering if any Chinese speaking Mastodonians can help. These two photos are from a book written by a family ancestor that was published in 1930 in China. The book itself is in English, but we would love to know what the writing in Chinese says.

The piece of paper on the inside could be anything. Maybe even from a former owner of the book?

The Book's English title is, "Within the Four Seas."
