On 13th Jan, my first new music of the year is released. Ground, Air, Life was commissioned by The Glasgow Barons as a musical response to climate change.
Each movement explores a different facet of the earth, with the slow-moving tectonic plates of Ground developing into the light airiness of the harmonics in Air and finally onto Life and mechanisation.

Continuing my introduction thread with my first album of my #chambermusic : Dichroic Light released in 2015. Includes music for #viola, #violadamore, #stringquartet #pianotrio, #bassclarinet and #electronics About half the works are acoustic the other with live electronics.

It was my first big project after my masters and is a large reason why I started looking properly into the economics of streaming.

The thing I’m finding quite nice about this platform compared to the bird is the post length. It’s long enough to get a bit of nuance in there and confirm that you aren’t being a dick or jumping in on someone becuase shortness or lack of grammar can be perceive as that. 500 chars feels such a nicer length to get across a proper, thought out and well intentioned post. Or that’s the way it feels…. Always take things in the best rather than worst possible tone of voice. :)

During the summer I released my #album The Remixes. Treating my recordings as source material for these new music as #electroacoustic (often #ambient) works was an interesting process. Not thinking of them as my music but just sounds. Also a lockdown project to try and keep me sane….

Matthew Whiteside is a composer and concert producer based in Glasgow, ‘One to Watch’ in the Herald’s Culture Awards and winner of the Light Moves Innovative Use of Sound Award for his work Entangled. Recent work includs Little Black Lies commissioned by Scottish Opera, with libretto by Helene Grøn; Entangled, commissioned by the Institute of Physics; and developing VR work with Marisa Zanotti.
