This is how you can follow hashtags on Mastodon:

1. Enter hashtag in search box.
2. Select hashtags tab.
3. Click on the relevant hashtag
4. Click on the follow icon at the top-right of the results list.

Toots with the hashtag then show up on Home. Nice!

In case anyone is struggling to find the option to follow a hashtag, this is new in v4.0, so if your admin didn't upgrade the instance you might not be able to do this
@tmalsburg Also in advanced web interface you can pin hashtag results as a separate column
@tmalsburg yet does not work in Mastodon-app but Metatext-app or web-browser, right?
@vavatin This works in the web browser. I don't use apps much. Tried the official Mastodon app but didn't see the benefit.
@tmalsburg Just tried this: awesome stuff, thank you so very much!
@tmalsburg Thank you for this! I am finally not lost!
@tmalsburg
Legend thank you needed that.😀
@tmalsburg I hope you don't mind me asking a follow-up question. Some people are creating "groups." For example: https://mastodon.online/@politicalscie[email protected]. How exactly do these work? Some of these "groups" that I follow have posts and followers that I can see. Other "groups" that I follow also have posts and followers, but I can't see them. Are groups good way to follow a topic/community?
