If you think something someone said might have been something you disagree with, instead of starting an argument, ask them to clarify or ask them specific questions about what they said

Why
1. The use of “American” when one mean the U.S. is exclusionary…it erases that there are ACTUALLY 3 “Americas”: North, Central & South
2. When the U.S. is the default it breeds superiority; centers this "America" over others which is how folx can agree with “shithole countries”
3. By identifying as Black, I’ve enlarged my community rather than shrinking it
