For the record, jackdaws really are crows, just small ones. They're small black corvids that display all the same characteristic behaviours of the larger carrion crows. IMO rooks and ravens, also crows. They are very similar animals and closely related! When I learned 'crow identification' in the UK, it was to differentiate between different species of crow, even though only carrion crows have it in the name.
