@eri Beautiful smile! Glad you’re loving yourself

@evacide

The photo that I found. Can’t remember whose it was. Makes me laugh out loud.

Boldness is all!!!

Not really a surprise, but a delight and relief nontheless, the #MurderBot TV show has been renewed for Season 2!

“They made healthcare a commodity, education a debt trap, and housing a speculation market — then told you that poverty is a personal failing.
They privatized survival and called it freedom."

Got an email from Google that my storage space was 91% full and I should buy more for £5 a month. Spent the last week deleting 10 years of emails, files & attachments. I've now got tennis elbow, my right thumb is agony but down to 7% storage space used - I have defeated Google

i still think this is the funniest block reason my school has ever set
@split when I was in high school, several math websites were blocked for "prohibited educational content" and if that doesn't perfectly describe the US education system

@hazel @split

God forbid a kid makes a teacher look ignorant or foolish.

@split @hazel my school blocked GitHub. Sucks because it's a genuine part of the computer science curriculum, and I'm the type of person who likes to read source code in her free time. Me and my teacher have launched complaints to the people in charge of the block, nothing has changed
@hamburger317 @split @hazel imagine blocking a very essential website that even your teachers launched complaints against you

@hamburger317 @split @hazel in my school for some reason I can't access the arch wiki

They had a cyber attack recently so I understand they had to strengthen their security, but that's such a specific block to a harmless website... I can only assume that it was not on purpose, specially since it doesn't say it was blocked, it just doesn't open when I'm at school

@hamburger317 @split @hazel a lot of places block sites you can "download files" from, not realising that a) that's the majority of the internet, and b) nobody can download files from github

@hamburger317 @split @hazel I'm currently struggling against my work content filter.

It (correctly) allows Github, but doesn't allow gists on Github. It allows me to download Debian images (and access the repos) but doesn't allow me to view the documentation.

For some bizarre reason it allows me to access the internet archive, but refuses to allow me to read the Ceph documentation.

@hazel @split ah yes, the forbidden metric system
@hazel @split well, nothing is more exciting than acquiring forbidden knowledge so maybe its reverse psychology at play
@hazel @split Wouldn't want anyone finding out that Pi's value is not the legislated one.
@bjb @hazel @split I don't want to blame the victim, but was it owing to pi?
@schwinghamer @hazel @split
No I was just remembering that state that legislated the value of pi , and thought it would be amusing to bring it up here. That probably happened in a different state. I haven't looked it up.
@schwinghamer @hazel @split
Seems that happened in1897 in Indiana.
And it didn't get passed.
@bjb @schwinghamer @hazel @split I remember something more recent. Some US politician wanted to change its value to 3 to make the math easier. In that case, I think his bill failed to pass. It was one of the wonky “can you believe it’s not an Onion article” headlines that made it outside US borders, I think during the first nutso orange regime.
@hazel @split It was because actual demographic stats on racial income disparity were used, if I recall correctly.
@split oh, gosh. They should've put one sentence description, at least... not one word!
@hnb they put in the effort to put 2 words for some domains

and sometimes the autogenerated block reasons reach 3!
@split gosh, so helpless...
@split hey at least they're actually being honest here, every other district i've been in makes up some bs reason like "security" or "adult content"
@ezra i think my district does this with some other domains too though not sure
@ezra @split I am imagining a district that only blocks the words "adult content" so they can honestly say "we strictly block adult content" and "we only block adult content" if they ever have to talk to the press.
@split "Well we certainly can't have any of THAT"
@split casually breaking coolviruses.download by being funny
@split
this is why instance admins defed from mastodon.social, specifically to prevent you from friendship
@split *Mortal Kombat Announcer voice*
School wins!
Friendship!

@split
Feels very anime villain.

"in a world where friendship is outlawed"

@Basic_Bench @split For us older German folks, there's this song
"und ich düse, düse, düse im Sauseschritt
und bring die Liebe mit
von meinem Himmelsritt"
(it basically says that they are coming running along the sky to bring love to us)

It had a spoken intro about how hate has been ruling for 10000 years on Earth. And more spoken parts, now that I think of it.

Great, now I have this song playing in my head....

Edit: added short translation.

@split but... Friendship is magic!
@ente@brotka.st too bad this isnt hogwarts
@split at least they know what's good for you and they keep it away so you can be an obeying Student and a good worker later in life!

@split

everyone knows friendship is magic
and magic is witchcraft
and witchcraft is satanic
therefore friendship is satanic
only hate allowed

@split "Friendship is NOT magic >:("
@split Do they also block My Little Pony stuff with that reason?
@lanodan @split to be fair, i knew a person in high school who would watch fucking my little pony porn on their school laptop during class, they had to have their laptop taken from them
@mjdxp @split @lanodan I was going to say "do we know each other?" as a joke, then I noticed the NSFW content warning, so I reread your reply and realised it said porn and now I'm glad I didn't do that xD
@split
Friendship Is Magic.
Magic is the devil's work.
Therefore...
@split I once worked at a company where all of the social sites were blocked. Except for discord. Because the boss was in a social discord group that he wanted to be able to access at work.
@split that really says something about what's going on these days.
@split yeah, your school doesn't want you to have friendship (serious)
@split I don't know what's funnier: Blocking one instance of mastodon, or the description being friendship.
@split

On one hand, this really is very funny.

On the other hand... its seriously depressing
@split how DARE you make friends? How very dare you?!?!?!
