When people act like data can save us, I think about crime data and traffic incident data.
It's really data shaped by law enforcement behavior and their priorities, and should be treated as such.
Traffic data is all too often focused on making drivers' lives more convenient. But you all know that.
Still annoyed at Jacobin's recent redesign which favors ostentatious busyness over legibility. Here's an example. The white text on red background fails the WCAG AAA contrast standard for accessibility. The color palette flips the convention for choropleth maps, using lighter colors to mean "more" instead of "less." The states aren't labeled. The values on the triangles (are we using height or area here?) aren't labeled etc.
