“Among faculty, the drive for unionization has been strongest among non-tenure track faculty... This reflects the massive restructuring of faculty, over the past decades, to largely precarious low-wage college teaching and researching positions”

Yoooo congrats to my #USC faculty colleagues who delivered their #union petition to #NLRB & to our admin today! ✊🎓

Changes 'from above' make me wanna read an exert from Auden in faculty meetings:
Thou shalt not do as the dean pleases,
Thou shalt not write thy doctor's thesis On education,
Thou shalt not worship projects nor
Shalt thou or thine bow down before
Administration.
Thou shalt not answer questionnaires
...
Thou shalt not be on friendly terms
With guys in advertising firms
The Chronicle of Higher Education is only just now seeing this? That could be part of the problem and the train has already left the station.

The bargaining team representing TAs, contract faculty, postdocs, and grounds/facilities workers at my institution reached a tentative agreement with the university last night at the 11th hour. Among other things, it includes solid salary increases and improved health care. All despite admin saying over and over they just couldn't afford to get anywhere near the unions' demands. Congrats! ✊

Hopefully UC faculty get inspired by CSU faculty. UC Faculty at most campuses were pretty limp when it came to supporting grad students, TAs, readers, and postdocs last year, so I don't think I'll be holding my breath.
