Now granted, Sam Page is nobody anyone should want near public office. Still, this is the NC equivalent of trading McCarthy for Johnson. They'll get a replacement but no one will be able to funnel wealthy donors to Senate races the way Berger could.

An (the?) architect of so many shady things in #NC government is toast. Taken out in a primary, even after pushing through redistricting to give the GOP another seat in the US House.
The schadenfreude is EXTREME.
County elections officials finished counting ballots in the Republican primary featuring Senate leader Phil Berger and Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page, who led by about two dozen votes after canvasses in Rockingham and Guilford counties. Berger has until noon Tuesday to request a recount.
