Here is the mistake we are making: we keep thinking that national politics in America is something other than a result of celebrity, charisma, and the incumbency and nepotism of elite power.

"Nothing to see here folks, move on. Religion not really to blame."

According to the author, there can be "religious sounding language" that is not "actually" "religious" but "secular" because it is used by "secular people... with zero meaningful ties to the church or theological principle."

What if I told you that religion just simply IS "religious sounding language" (and the social effects of such language)... and nothing more?

Religious-sounding language will be everywhere in 2025

"A great deal of language that looks a lot like Christian Nationalism isn’t actually calling for theocracy; it is secular minoritarianism pushed by secular people, often linked to rightwing cable and other media with zero meaningful ties to the church or theological principle."

Y’all I just recently learned the phrase “zombie internet,” used to describe social networks and sites flooded with AI generated content, receiving AI generated boosts and replies. Academics face a related threat, as courses are prepped and taught with the help of AI, and taken by students using AI to pass them. And the business world is there as well: LLMs in emails, proposals, analysis, reports. We risk creating a world of bots talking to bots in “AI Slop.” We need a better theory of #AIGov.
I work in #InfoGov and #AIGov but formerly was an academic. I have graded thousands of papers and know the pain of teachers and professors at this time of year. There is a lot of pain. And lately in my network I have seen hundreds of posts about new levels of suffering, as graders deal with AI Slop turned in by students. LLMs will forever change the way we write, learn, and teach. It’s a very steep curve of change. What we need to do is learn the tool and teach people to use it wisely.
I’m a #Python expert. I’ve been using it since the turn of the century. I’m quite comfortable when I face a new problems. Now I’m learning #rust and oh boy do I feel helpless, lost, and afraid. And worse I feel like if I write a Rust program, it will really be a Python program using the words and syntax of Rust. My learning process in this new area is going slow.

Finally got around to watching @chrisjrn's talk about the state of maintainers in Open Source and how we interact with users and how they interact with us. Super interesting and great insights. The #zx thing is still so crazy to me. I think I have been living in the 2000s when it comes to #FOSS.

How do you square religion and MAGA?
Hello from Asheville NC where I work out of the attic of an old Victorian home. These days I’m a consultant in InfoGov and AI Gov; formerly for a very long time (22 years) I was a professor of Religion and Philosophy, and later a Dean of General Education. I’m a GenX dad, budding Python coder, lover of sci-fi. Expert on apocalyptic scenarios and the mad world. I’m a slow learner, a late bloomer, and keep a beginner’s mind. #introduction
