Russian Telegram videos now show how ordinary citizens are stopped and having their phones searched.

During these searches, the police writes down their phones' unique International Mobile Equipment Identity number to log their real identity and this number in a database. So every time a citizen turns on his phone, the dictatorship then knows which citizen it is, where he is, what he is doing online, and who he is talking to.

This is not a country. This is the largest prison on earth.

Watching the Oscars, one would hardly know they came from a nation at war waged by a fascist regime. Der Spiegel rightly calls us out: "The cowardly Oscars. War outside, frivolity inside: The Oscars ignored the Trump reality."

What was your first #Linux?

In 2001 my WinME crashed in the evening & it was clear I need to reinstall it! Everything was broken, but very important stuff was on the HDD!

Luckily l lived close to a gas station, which was opened that night & they were selling computer magazines.
So I went with my last money to the gas station & bought one with an #SuseLinux DVD (or CD) & was then able to download my important data.

This was the start of my Linux journey

So thank you @torvalds

Apple is adding video support to its podcasting apps — that’s great. But the way it’s doing so might jeopardize the openness that’s kept podcasting from getting enshittified like every other form of media. It’s not too late for them to fix this. https://anildash.com/2026/02/28/apple-video-podcast-power/
Why Apple’s move to video could endanger podcasting's greatest power

I recommend these easy first steps to #DigitalSovereignty for an average user:

1. Install @signalapp, and *delete* WhatsApp
2. Start using #Firefox or @librewolf with the @ublockorigin extension
3. Start using @libreoffice for documents and spreadsheets
4. Use a free opensource email client e.g. @thunderbird

All of the above can be done on non free operating systems.

Start experimenting with #Linux on a spare computer or laptop. All recommended software works there as well.

California just put FOSS devs on the financial hook for your kids "safety"

So California finally did it. They passed Assembly Bill 1043. And now your OS is legally required to collect your birthdate and report it to every app developer... so they can verify you're not a baby....
