A hall of mirrors in the abandoned Bell Labs complex in Holmdel, NJ Birthplace of more inventions than I can list here (follow the link for a rundown) and architect Eero Saarinen's swan song, it was saved from demolition and lives on as Bell Works.

Holmdel, New Jersey's Abandoned Bell Labs : The Idea Factory

One of the most innovative building designs where many of the 20th century's biggest scientific breakthroughs were made almost met the wrecking ball.

Hello Mastodon! #introduction ๐Ÿ‘‹โ€‹

I'm a cognitive neuroscientist ๐Ÿง โ€‹๐Ÿ”ฌโ€‹๐Ÿ’ปโ€‹ at the psychology department in Leiden, The Netherlands ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑโ€‹๐ŸŒทโ€‹

I research how we make decisions ๐Ÿ”€โ€‹ and how our brains change as we age ๐Ÿ‘ตโ€‹ (both in ๐Ÿโ€‹ and ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€‹)

Beyond brains, I care & post about #feminism, #openscience and #climateaction ๐ŸŒโ€‹

Happy to be here!

@marinopagan @SussilloDavid @carlosbrody congrats, such a beautiful story, really glad to see this out!

New preprint, led by @marinopagan
(he's on the job market! he's awesome!), together with a great team of collaborators!

For flexible, context-dependent decision-making, the space of network solutions is much larger than previously appreciated.

Moreover, variability across and even within individuals on where they are in this space is the underlying variable that jointly explains neural and behavioral variability.

A big mystery in brain research is what are the neural mechanisms that drive individual differences in higher order cognitive processes. Here we present a new theoretical and experimental framework, in collaboration with Vincent Tang, Mikio Aoi, Jonathan Pillow, Valerio Mante, @SussilloDavid and Carlos Brody.

#introduction

๐Ÿ‘‹

I do #NeuroScience and am interested in the #Circuit dynamics of adaptive but reliable visually guided #Behavior.

In our group at the University of #Bonn, we study

- the stabilization of the neural code in #Vision, #Perception, #Learning, and #Memory

- the pathway-specific processing of #Sensory and #SelfMotion signals

We emphasize ethologically relevant behavior, longitudinal #Optophysiology, and miniaturized and benchtop #TwoPhoton microscopy.
