Very proud to share my newly published paper on #ConflictDynamics 🥳 We used #QualitativeComparativeAnalysis (#QCA) to determine which conditions explain latent, collaborative, or escalated dynamics in #LandUseConflicts (and how to get people to work together more often in these conflicts). It's the centerpiece of my PhD project. Feels amazing to have this milestone finished 😊

Unsere neue Publikation zeigt, dass die Pflanzenbeobachtungen, die über unsere App gesammelt wurden, traditionelle Initiativen zur Überwachung der Pflanzenphänologie unterstützen können. Warum ist das wichtig? Weiterlesen: https://floraincognita.de/phaenologie-monitoring-mit-flora-incognita-pflanzenbeobachtungen/

New paper published: Potential sources of time lags in calibrating species distribution models.

Great collaboration, lead by Franz Essl, including @lenzner @zurelllab and many others.

🧵Sometimes friends of mine say they feel guilt they aren't recycling more, or swapping out their lightbulbs for more efficient ones.

But those aren't really very important things to do to lower your emissions.

I think it's important that we all have a basic mental map of what really are the effective consumer choices.

This chart from Kimberly Nicholas and Seth Wynes at Lund University (2017) deserves to be more widely known.

The past few days I had the privilege and pleasure to teach #biodiversity analyses in #Alpine environments to my great colleagues of the European Long-Term Environmental Research Infrastructure (https://elter-ri.eu) from all over Europe and Israel in #GranParadisoNationalPark in #Piemont #Italy

Life in academia

Hi there! I am a professor of ecology at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. In this channel I'm talking about life in academia from graduate student to running a lab and everything in between. Topics include publishing, writing, reviewing, research strategy, rejections and success - and plenty of advice for doctoral students, postdocs, and early career researchers. Covering all the ins and outs of academic life from the perspective of an ecology lab. There are playlists for doctoral students, postdocs, new PIs, and lists covering more general topics. New videos out every week, so please feel free to subscribe!

Combining conventional and technological taxonomic approaches gives more accurate results in identifying species - Home - Estación Biológica de Doñana

A scientific team with the participation of the Doñana Biological Station has compared for the first time efficiency of the work of taxonomists versus molecular methods to identify species. The team has tested the combination of these two methods on non-biting midges, a group of insects, difficult to identify but crucial to monitoring water quality and ecosystems. They have developed a new framework for identifying majority of the species present in a sample by processing mere 10% of the...

Autofreie Innenstädte sind so schlimm, da tanzen die Leute einfach auf den Plätzen!
Und überall stehen Fahrräder herum, wo sonst auch ein paar Autos parken könnten.

Tajinastes (#Echium wilpretii ssp trichosiphon) in Caldera de Taburiente NP (La Palma, #Canary Is.) are now flowering. They are difficult to miss in the way to the top!
