I know there's a general "cause fatigue" with the current state of the world, and I feel it too.
But in my years working in privacy,
I don't think I've seen anything as terrifying as this European Chat Control proposal. And I'm not even European.
Everyone needs to pay
much more attention and be much more worried and outraged about this.
This proposal is the most dystopian glimpse into a horrible authoritarian future I have seen so far in the West.
It looks dismal, but we can still stop it
if we all work TOGETHER NOW ✊
There isn't much time left though,
so don't put it to next week.
Democracy dies in silence.
The final vote is on October 14th,
but media and representatives need to receive your messages NOW, so they have enough time to act on it.

I’m back into the job market 🎉
I’m not currently in a super hurry. I want to enjoy some time with my dog, do our scentwork class, enjoy some downtime after a prolonged period of stress. I’m employed until October 31st. After that, I’m free to take a new job as a senior software engineer. Alternatively, I’m also toying with the idea of changing paths to SRE.
_Important!_: Are you working at a non profit or doing good to the world in some other way but can’t afford to pay market rate? Let’s talk anyways 🤗.
What I bring to the table:
- Enthusiastic, positive attitude.
- Direct, clear, plain language communication.
- Empathy, and helpfulness.
- Systems thinking.
- Willingness to both teach and learn.
- Carefully written, human-readable code.
- 7 years of software development focused on Go.
- Solid foundation on programming language theory.
- Neurodivergency and general disability advocacy.
I can get you references from other developers in all parts of the stack, SREs, designers, engineering managers, and more.
Hard requirements:
- Not evil company, with a product that solves an actual need. (It should make someone’s life better, and shouldn’t exploit people. Also people != developers)
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Home office allowed at least as a disability accommodation.
- Kind coworkers.
- Not willing to relocate from Berlin, Germany.
Soft requirements:
- Strongly typed language. Very proficient in go but I’m flexible. Preference for compiled languages, or at least languages with one standard interpreter.
Preferences:
- I’m all in for science.
- Anything to do with dogs, I’m also game!

Intro # I make resilient and reliable software. I enjoy doing so with kind people, and enjoy learning and teaching. My main technology focus is Go, but I have worked in other languages such as Typescript and Python. I believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are the cornerstones of an ethical workplace, and that they make our work better by bringing diverse perspectives on board. Hello EU people:
There is an EU citizen petition to ban the use of "conversion therapy" on LGBTQ+ folks (i.e., trying to de-LGBTQ us— a process often described as "torture"). If you're interested, you can sign it here:
https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home
Please especially take note if you are a national of Spain, Slovenia, Belgium, or the Netherlands; the petition needs about 5x as many votes as it has now, but also needs to hit a threshold in four additional countries, and those are the four closest.
@casandro @c3isdn @manawyrm @ls @ChaosPost @eventphone yo, I'm one of the people bringing Minitels to 38c3. I had never heard of BTX before but I do have the infra to run a V23 softmodem with Asterisk, and I'm hoping to use that during Congress. From the limited info I've found this may be useful, maybe?
Either way count me in to build some hacky contraption that enables BTX-to-Minitel interaction. The true European dream is at hand!
