If you exercise some degrees of freedom in conducting your experiment, you can make almost any stupid hypothesis (appear to) satisfy p<0.05.

False positive rates can be as high as 60%.

These researchers (appeared to) prove, to p<0.05, that listening to kids music made participants 1.5 years younger.

This may be obvious, but I recently started routinely adding "-youtube" to google searches. This eliminates most pages with links to garbage YouTube-monetized videos that try to attract people looking for basic instructions on how to do simple things. Greatly improves the quality of search results.
Don't you hate it when someone says something fucked up to you and you think about it for the next 30 years.

UPDATE: WE GOT PAXLOVID! Your inputs worked. Thank you!!

#LongCovid #Covid19 friends, I need urgent help:

wife tested positive for covid. It's bad. Online Doc refused to prescribe #Paxlovid citing she's <50yrs. Said LongCovid isn't real and pretty much gaslit the thing.

PCP offices are closed.

CVS w/o prescription requires labwork that we don't have handy.

The blockers in the US #healthcare are systemic.

In GA, how might we get Paxlovid? Any ideas?

#covid #mastodon #medicine

This is not the cooling system I asked for.
The fragmentation among friends that follows Twitter’s collapse is exactly the kind of problem that Mastodon and the social web solves for. Imagine that you don’t have to pick and choose which new platform to adopt, or make and maintain a million accounts—because you can follow anyone regardless of which platform they’re on. That’s our reality.

If you're wondering why there are so few news stories about the rise of #Mastodon, it's because nobody is getting paid to game the media about it.

There's no publicists, no cozy ad deals, no suits, no coercion: Nobody is getting rich off of Mastodon

... that's also why it's so enlightening and fun to participate here

"Studies have shown that a mere 10% shift from car drivers to bike riders has resulted in a 40% reduction in traffic congestion. Even if you never touch an e-bike, you would benefit from supporting their increased use."

It’s not an ‘electric bike craze.’ You’re looking at the future of transportation

Electric bikes aren't a fad or a craze, they're here to stay. Their numbers are growing every year. Now how do we make it all safer?
