This Friday on Bandcamp we revisit what we did 10 years ago...

Hello to our new followers, which, for the one and only time, is everyone...

We'll be verifying our account very soon, but in the meantime, our top level domain should hopefully help confirm our identity, and we've also written about why we're here on Mastodon, what was involved to get here, and the other BBC accounts you can follow.

Say hi, follow and give us a boost!

This was the part of Mastodon that threw me at first - I was used to being spoonfed content, but you can curate your own content with hashtags. It's much more pleasant.

@Cheifgyk3d's whole thread is full of tips for recent migrators.

#Mastodon is more like a garden than a supermarket. There is no algorithm or points system feeding you a constant stream of content. You have to gradually cultivate a feed by discovering and following individuals and hashtags, pruning what you don't want, and engaging in one-on-one conversions. Free Mastodon tip: you can follow a big general hashtag like #art, then mute styles you are not interested in, like #️⃣furry, to fine-tune your feed. It's amazing, all these things that people said could happen if we did a brexit which are happening but are not because of brexit.

Habits are difficult to break.

I am on my phone far too much, flitting between the usual apps, doomscrolling and getting more anxious with each minute. I haven't yet been able to stop using the birdsite, but I have swapped where the icon is so I open this instead, the muscle memory more reliable than my willpower.

Fingers crossed that other friends can find their way here.

It Is Journalism’s Sacred Duty To Endanger The Lives Of As Many Trans People As Possible

The task of reporting is not a simple one. Each and every day, reporters and editors at publications like The Onion make difficult decisions about which issues should receive attention, knowing that our coverage will influence not only how people think, but also how they act. This responsibility is at the core of an…
