I loved the internet. Then hated what became of it. Now am inspired by federation and it’s future ❤️

@jaco @somecat TIL! Funny that it’s the same situation as pronouncing “GIF” vs “JIF”
Two years ago I quit and/or was fired from my job at a software company and wrote this. I stand by every word. https://justinpot.com/startup-founders-hire-me-to-be-your-ceo/

People that publish their recipes on the internet for free, with a “jump to recipe”, with a change to metric button, with a “halve this recipe” and a “cooking mode” button, are angels on earth and I want you to know I love you whomever you are.

It has come to my attention that we don’t all pronounce this word the same way.

How many syllables does the word “jujubes” have?

(Boost for reach if this is also surprising to you.)

I think a simple change in nomenclature could help Mastodon incredibly. Servers is an inaccurate term and instance is unfamiliar and vague. Both create tension for new users.
Why not simply call Mastodon instances what they are: Communities.
Ask users which Mastodon community they'd like to join. Have community rules, community policy, and community leaders. Not server rules, instance moderators and administrators.

Let me start. Everyone is welcome at our community, https://thecanadian.social

While I don't believe in wasting empathy on fascists, when I see people posting "fascists aren't people" stuff I feel sick to my stomach because this kind of dehumanization of people we hate (even if they hate us) is fascist thinking. Fascists are people, terrible people who wish or don't care if they do the rest of us harm, but still human beings. This doesn't mean we have to indulge them, it just means that when we dehumanize other people we are in the process of becoming fascists ourselves (no matter how loudly we yell "freedom"). Freedom comes with responsibilities if you're not a fascist and one of those responsibilities is to recognize that we're all human, even the people we don't like or who may want to kill us.

JPEG compression + datamoshing in the backrooms pathtracer.

Had to perform the datamoshing separate from the initial reprojection so that blocks that cleared to new data would show the converged scene instead of just noisy data, so I'm basically reprojecting everything twice, which is silly but looks great!

A build of this is available on my Patreon for those eager to try the prototype.
