Bowie, "Cactus"

Dry for the moment. Think I might smuggle a beer into the gym and drink it in the shower after work in an effort to optimize efficiency...

DHS Tells Police That Common Protest Activities Are ‘Violent Tactics’

DHS is urging law enforcement to treat even skateboarding and livestreaming as signs of violent intent during a protest, turning everyday behavior into a pretext for police action.

... Can't tell if this is an ingredient breakdown or some elaborate call and response used to vet an intelligence operative from the North Korean underground...

This was a hard one to write. It’s disconcerting to report on inhumane conditions at a U.S. concentration camp from the comfort of my home office, but not enough people are speaking out. And I don’t want history to repeat. Please help let others know. My write-up in the replies.

Low-key lost it when I noticed the main image on the Wikipedia page for business casual attire is just an edit of the nude figures from the Pioneer plaque
What fresh hell did I wake up to
@sutter welcome to the overnight bacterial toot club!
@sutter calling boosts uppies is great!
@sutter they already took her pussy off, now this?

@BestGirlGrace @sutter

What does @vagina_museum think?

Also aliens may come to explore this situation, was Carl Sagan a puritan? So many questions...

@hnapel @sutter @vagina_museum the version of the story I'm aware of is that Sagan wanted her to have the vagina, but the suits said no.
@BestGirlGrace @hnapel @sutter @vagina_museum I mean… faces have apparently become a bridge too far for Business Casual, good thing the Pioneer mission left when it did.
@BestGirlGrace @hnapel @sutter This is quite right, with a touch of nodding to Ancient Greece https://masto.ai/@vagina_museum/110747221983351656

OLD THREAD REPOST Good afternoon, who would like to hear about a controversy about sending nudes into outer space? Well, we're going to tell you about a controversy about sending NUDES into OUTER SPACE...

Mastodon

@sutter

In memory of Linda Salzman...

@sutter @NewtonMark first alien civilisation to find the Pioneer probe will complain about receiving unsolicited nudes and wipe us out…
@bgrinter @sutter @NewtonMark
The plaque has instructions of which planet to target and which species is to blame for all the mess.
@geoffl @bgrinter @sutter @NewtonMark Don’t worry, the instructions include 9 planets.
@geoffl @NewtonMark @bgrinter @sutter It’s unfair not to count Eris or Ceres (actually discovered before Pluto!)
Eris (dwarf planet) - Wikipedia

@sutter @ifixcoinops they got jobs at Best Buy after some NASA cutbacks

@sutter

So the man has two left arms.

@dhobern @sutter

They may also think he has two arms left.

@sutter Wow I hope the aliens aren’t offended. Not sure what the dress code is for first contact.

@sutter

Vitruvian Man would have been too over the top.

@beadsland @sutter Maybe I should make a virtual paper doll game where one could dress the Pioneer plaque characters in various outfits.

@dmbaturin @beadsland @sutter Where do I subscribe for updates on this project, or to be informed when it's ready for viewing?

/sincere

@kagan @beadsland @sutter I guess follow me… I really do think it would be fun to make and if like to make it, but I can’t promise any sort of a timeframe, to be honest with you.
@kagan @beadsland @sutter I’m also terrible at drawing so I’ll need someone else to make the artwork for the outfits.
@sutter Well someone's got to teach the aliens how to dress business casual.
@sutter Was hoping the replies would include them dressed in other outfits.
@sutter Best Buy Business attire, more like it...but yes. :)
@sutter amazing, I had to check myself so if anyone else is wondering:

@sutter

✅Pants
✅Shirt
❌Shoes, WTF?

@sutter Did an AI create the image I wonder?

@sutter

"Created by AI"?

It's a year round April fool's joke?

@sutter His has a line that starts as a crease and ends up as a seam. And what's with the angled sleeve ends?
By "casual" I think they are referring to the garment assembly process.

@sutter Yes, If you go to File:Business casual male & female(.)svg on commons it lists the source svgs including https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Business_casual_male_%26_female.svg

The interesting thing about this is that Carl Sagan 's original on the NASA site was a jpeg, there's no note on how it was converted to an svg, but it looks too clean to be a machine translation. Being uploaded in 2013 rules out it being done by an LLM.

@sutter Well, that's awesome I think !
@sutter
That is really going to confuse the aliens!
@sutter if a human wore clothes would it be like this or this
@sutter 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣
@sutter if Pioneer plaque figures wore jeans, how would they wear it
@sutter honestly a great idea.
The figures are public domain AND I bet that went through a zillion rounds of NASA meetings to end up with the nominate cisgendered-appearing couple.

@colinstu

I agree that it looks that way, but in fact Carl Sagan and Frank Drake designed the plaques in a matter of weeks.

@sutter

Pioneer plaque - Wikipedia

@CppGuy @sutter jeez if anything their original design got watered down (more white) through further deliberations.
Frustrating those citations are buried away in a book I can't seem to easily access.
@sutter in order to be professional as a woman, you must not have LINES. LINES are for men only.
@Tattie @sutter Oh but they kept the lines for the pockets, which, we all know, are a joke on women’s trousers.
@sutter in case space aliens visit Best Buy, I guess.
@sutter why is he not waving

@sutter I looked up the page you refer to, and I followed the link to "Casual Wear".

This example pic has "organ donor" written all over it. Yikes!

@sutter when recycling public domain images goes too far.
@sutter So, the line down the right trouser leg starts as a press fold, but then becomes an inseam towards the bottom? Or are the trousers so stiff that they wont twist with the legs?
@sutter So business casual is the same as fast food franchise uniform?
