The BBC's experiment with Mastodon is pathbreaking in English-language news -- a major organization setting up its own instance. They've really thought this through. Key language:
"We're using social.bbc as the domain, so you can be sure these accounts are genuinely from the BBC. And by linking to and from the BBCβs website, we have verified our identity on Mastodon."

It will NEVER happen. No way. There is zero reason to. Threads is in a dominant position now. Once the cold-blooded mucky mucks and strategists start to look at the bottom-line potential, all the well-meaning engineers will be pushed over to monetization instead of the pet ActivityPub features. It wonβt happen.
