Just a dumb phone guy
@bigzaphod People need to buy a crap more Iconfactory t-shirts.
I will scroll through 100+ items in an Internet search looking for written instructions before I'll ever even consider watching a 1-minute instructional video.

We welcome your feedback on our Torment Nexus policy. To keep discussion productive, we ask that you refrain from the following topics:

- The book, _Don't Build the Torment Nexus_
- The literary use of the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale

one of the many horrifying things of the onset of vibecoding is the degree to which it empowers the guys out there who think they have a totally great app idea, and just need someone to make it. you know, the ones every single person who touches computers in any capacity has met? the ones with an idea that no doubt either already exists, or would be utterly impossible to do correctly, or has horrifying ethical issues, or just straight up is a bad idea? yeah.
those guys? those guys adore being able to tell a machine to go make it, with no concern for all the problems.
/2 I should note I’ve tried doing a bit of research, and I feel like some of the users I supported in my helpdesk days. I’m confident enough to get a machine with the specs I need, and I’m capable, if not willing to do my own support, but I’m really hoping to find something actual humans recommend because they like the machines or the people who make them. #linux #LaptopRecommendation
So, I’m looking at a new machine to replace the daily driver macbooks, and given *everything* I’m disinclined to give more money to Apple. Windows is a no go, so I’m hoping to get a good Linux machine this go around. It’s replacing an M2 MBP, so any 14/16inch thinner laptop is a good start. Framework is out for supporting shitty people, and system76 seems to be a lot quieter, other than opposing age checks, so I’m not sure on them. Any recommendations are welcome #linux #LaptopRecommendation

Yeah, stay in your lane Microsoft. Sabotaging Firefox is Mozilla’s job

Bad software makes me frustrated, so — given the state of the industry — I am constantly in a state of blinding, white-hot rage.

Nothing fucking works.

Decades ago, I’d read books like “Soul of a New Machine” and “Showstopper!” as romances, about late nights and impossible tasks and the ability to will something into existence using just brains and caffeine.

It took me far too long to recognize that they were actually warnings.

So we were told we had to use the LLM thing at work, and I’m taking the route of malicious compliance. So far it’s admitted it’s unreliable and sycophantic, and should never be trusted. So it’s calculating prime numbers while I tell it it’s not good enough.
