After viewing the Jalopnik slideshow of abandoned highways I posted yesterday, I found this piece where some blogger visits Farmington, Connecticut's abandoned stack highway interchange.

I love how Farmington takes an old railroad and is like "ooh, everybody come and ride bikes on our silly obsolete transportation infrastructure," but there's miles of never-used concrete highways that could be a great park and it's all Strictly Off Limits No Trespassing! 🙄

1/5 black people in Florida have been convicted of "a felony"-- (we should talk about how this alone is absurd.)

At one time having a felony on your record would make you ineligible to vote.

The people of Florida passed a law saying that felons who served their time could vote.

Ron DeSantis decided if there were any unpaid fines, they could be *sent to prison* for voting. It's hard to find out if you have any unpaid fines.

This is just Jim Crow all over again.

My top request of the bicycle pedicab industry is to make it more affordable so they compete with taxis.

My second request is please stop playing that song:

🎶 New Yoooooooork
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New Yooork🎶

Good essay by Aaron Gordon re: the challenges facing #bikenyc -- mostly from incompetent, unwilling, or unable government.

"New York has become a city of second-hand policies implemented by third-rate politicians playing with yesterday’s ideas. Behind on everything and late to every party, New York is being governed on tape delay."

Biking In New York City Is Getting Worse

The benefits of more protected bike lanes have been outpaced by other trends that make the whole experience dangerous and sad.

Hey @lowqualityfacts , here's an idea for you:

"The Grand Union supermarket chain, once common through much of the Northeast US, has this name because the original location was at the corner of Grand Street and Union Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn."

[Amusingly, the chain's corporate headquarters was in Brooklyn for a while, but it is not where it was founded nor in the right neighborhood for this low-quality fact to check out!]
