I've found that this makes a massive difference, giving students the detachment they need to focus on their writing.
Today is Native Women's Equal Pay Day. In the US, the pay gap between white women and Black and brown women, is *greater* than the pay gap between white women and white men. There's a sleight of hand that often happens: when we talk about pay gaps, we talk about all women (to maximise the perceived gap), but the remedies usually benefit white women (because racism).
We could close more of the pay gap by addressing racism
