Union Berlin pushes back on sexist comments aimed at trailblazing coach Marie-Louise Eta

After naming Marie-Louise Eta the first female head coach in Europe’s “big five” soccer leagues, Union Berlin says the club “has her back” as it condemns sexist comments on social media. Eta’s first game is Saturday against Wolfsburg, but there have already been critical comments on social media suggesting that she’s not suitable for the job because she’s a woman. Union’s account on X responded “that's sexism” to a post arguing that players wouldn’t take a woman’s instructions about tactics seriously. Union’s director of men’s professional football, Horst Heldt, says he has full confidence in Eta and finds the criticism “crazy.”

The 'traditional wife' lifestyle is pitched to US women as a return to comforting nostalgia ... but really it is a misogynistic religion-fueled trap.

Psychological researchers were startled to find the common factor in men fixating on the 'lifestyle' is not retro chivalry but instead “hostile sexism”. The men held overtly warped negative beliefs about women and likely become punitive and controlling because they know they are highly dependent on women for intimacy ...

This matters. Beyond identifying that it is a trap for women, it highlights a link between women suffering and religio-cultural weaponisation, stigmatisation, and limitation of ways in which males can sexually experience and express.

Living in a society which does not weaponise sexual orientation/experience would reduce the resented 'dependence' on women.

More fool the woman who spins or spreads homophobia. She is laying the foundations of her own trap, whilst presuming it is a separate issue.

She has reported extensively on violence and sexual abuse against women in Mexico. In 2006, she reported on the hundreds of female homicides in Ciudad Juárez. That same year, a tape emerged of a conversation between businessman Kamel Nacif Borge and the governor of Puebla, in which they conspired to have her beaten and raped for her reporting.

@amydiehl women don't *stay* in STEM like men do, still, however. The leaky pipeline is still real.
More women going to uni and being at early-level isn't enough.
We don't just need to break gender stereotypes. We need to break misogyny. Patriarchy.

So long as society degrades the feminine and strictly defines it so that masculinity is built in opposition, we have problems. For everyone, but especially women and girls.

Men can and should address these biases. We cannot fight for all of them *and* for us. However much we say patriarchy harms everyone. They don't do anything about it until it gets in their way. Men who don't respect women don't listen to us anyway.

Men: step up. Stop telling boys they have to be strong, exciting, daredevil workers like pilots and firefighters. And redefine what strength is.

My doctor and nurse friends who deal with people at their most intimate, difficult moments? That's strength, too. Moreso in many cases. Dealing with a classroom full of children?? I am not strong enough for that.
