This Zohran Mamdani video is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The numbers he cites, the strategy and results they produced — it’s the future. When have you heard *any* campaign talk about this, ever? It is the blueprint.

If you ever want feel-good tears, go read the reviews of electric tricycles.

There are so many great stories and photos of people regaining mobility, reconnecting with their spouse/friends/family, and just having fun.

The New York Times today if it was December 7, 1941.

"The US base at Pearl Harbor hosting navy ships reports several stopped floating Sunday morning."

TIL @jerry's distant cousins are super chill.
shoutout to the Nvidia Control Panel's HDCP status page which still uses this absolutely ancient image even in the latest drivers

"My wife loves her trike, happiest I've ever seen her and we've been together for 44 years."

"I'm 91 years old, 92 next month. My trike lets me exercise my heart, lungs, and legs while having fun…Never planned to live this long, don't know how to act but me and my trike have fun every day."

"We bought one for my husband (disabled Veteran)…he can't walk but maybe 100 steps. OMG!! It only took me 35 years to find something we could do together!!!…We kid about 'we got TRIKES' and we're 'GOIN RIDIEN!!' I love my husband and am Sooo happy to ride with him!!!"

I just love the joy in the reviews. The joy in rediscovering life. The joy in rekindling relationships. The joy in doing something silly and fun and good for you.

@LilahTovMoon wow that guy looks incredible for 91 holy cow
@LilahTovMoon I love "don't know how to act". Life goals..
@LilahTovMoon We have a couple folks near us that ride these, they’re so cool!
@LilahTovMoon I had no idea such a thing existed. This is lovely.

@LilahTovMoon oooh, those are lovely! (and holy hell, that 91-year-old fella is looking hella spry!)

i remember just before e-bikes became a thing that everybody knew about, a bicycle afficionado friend talked about increasingly seeing them on trails, and the community grousing about folks cranking them up to max and then get in trouble because they’re driving faster than their reflexes can keep up with.

even back then, our bottom line was that they allow people to enjoy the trails that would otherwise have no chance of doing so. get movement in they wouldn’t otherwise get. see sights they would have to seek out on the tv. go on tours with their friends despite being much less fit. and so on.

as far as i’m concerned, the entire argument about the use of electrically supported mobility devices ended back then.

@LilahTovMoon my 85 year old in laws just got a trike eBike. Love to bike but found it harder to do. Really great to see. Cheap batteries and stronger motors are great for mobility!
@LilahTovMoon this is so encouraging! 🥰
@LilahTovMoon I have a friend in his 90s who rode his electric bike everywhere. He got so much further on it than he could with a regular bicycle, and he loved the freedom and fresh air. I miss seeing his bike chained to poles in odd parts of the city where he’s visiting (he’s moved to another city but he’s still very active).
@LilahTovMoon what model is this you're looking at? I know a couple folks with mobility issues who maybe would like this
@starica I don't have a recommendation for any model. The reviews are from: https://lectricebikes.com/products/xp-trike-graphite
Electric XP Trike

@starica

There are a few things to consider before buying them, but if they can manage these it's fine:

This low-cost electric trike opens up the outdoors to more people, but three wheels have their own set of challenges.

@LilahTovMoon very cool! Thanks for sharing this goodness!

@LilahTovMoon One time when I was working in a used bike shop someone popped by and dropped a trike sized for like a ten year old kid who's too big for a bigwheel but too small for the adapted stuff you can usually find used.

Well, almost immediately this mom pops by with her disabled son and the owner just hands it to her. Kid was absolutely psyched about the trike and mom almost welled up in tears.

I keep that event in my mind as a reminder that kindness really does makes the world go round.

@renardboy I can relate. When my son, who is disabled, got a first test-ride on a tricycle, I broke into tears right then and there.
@LilahTovMoon thank you. I really needed a lift today.
@LilahTovMoon we use e trikes at work
@morri @LilahTovMoon interesting; what sort of use case? Like getting around in a big warehouse, or ...?
@esnyder @LilahTovMoon no for getti.g around town deliveri g mail and parcels
@LilahTovMoon CC @Pepijn this will make you smile

@LilahTovMoon There's a saying that bikes (or in this case trikes) deliver the freedom that cars promise, and these folks look like they are definitely discovering that.

Things like ebikes, trikes and cargo bikes, could all deliver such a revolution in car-free mobility for so many people who thought a car was their only option thanks to age, or needing to travel with kids, or whatever. Now we need the infrastructure to really let it happen.

@beecycling @LilahTovMoon so many anti-bicycle people will be like "but what about the elderly with mobility issues" and I hate them so much because look at this! Bike lanes are so fucking good for elderly people with mobility issues because they can ride their e-bikes, e-trikes, mobility scooters, and powered wheelchairs down them.
@bunny_jane @LilahTovMoon Funny how that's also the only time they express any concern for elderly and disabled people's needs. Rest of the time they're parking on pavements, or blocking dropped kerbs, or parking too close to a vehicle that needs room for a wheelchair ramp, or tooting their horn at some old person for taking "too long" to cross the road, or saying an old person shouldn't be driving any more at their age because they drive a bit slow.
@LilahTovMoon My son has one of them, literally the best QoL improvement for him since he grew out of the kiddy seat on my bike.
His disabilities prevent him from riding a bicycle, but he can ride the tricycle.
@LilahTovMoon got my dad an e-bike for a similar reason - his knees aren’t great and he can’t run anymore and he loves it. He’s able to zip around outside again and is arguably more mobile than ever. Such a good purchase :-)
@LilahTovMoon I'm loving Ramblin' Ralph, 91 years young, that one.
@LilahTovMoon My housemate had a friend and former co-worker who'd bought one because he couldn't drive any more and needed a way to move groceries, etc. He didn't realize how much assembly it would need and didn't have the mobility or space to do it himself. We put it together at our place and roomie rode it over to his friend's place to deliver it. The friend was ecstatic that he finally had mobility back.
The Straight Story - Wikipedia

@LilahTovMoon I've been thinking of buying one for a while now, for my mom and me.
