Our research consortium PIRATE, personalized intracranial risk assessment of aneurysm patients for therapy evaluation, got funded. Researchers from universities Greifswald, Rostock and Stralsund will look for new ways to determine, if and how brain aneurysms need to be treated. If you have a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science or related and want to work on your PhD I provide the perfect position for you in a project that actually makes sense. Start April 2026, 3 years.
I just realized the current stable version of Python is 3.14.1, which makes it Pi-thon
I'm pleased to announce that my article "Computer models explain how histones establish contacts in the cell nucleus and regulate accessibility" has just been published in "Biologie in unserer Zeit" journal as early view. The article provides an easy-to-understand overview of our research work from recent years on modeling chromatin. The text is available exclusively in German language. https://doi.org/10.11576/biuz-7986 #Chromatin #Bioinformatics #ScienceCommunication #ComputationalBiology

Vaccines are one of the greatest scientific success stories of our time. They have saved more than 154 million lives in the last 50 years — more than 1 life every 10 seconds.

Recent moves to strip funding from vaccine-related research are shortsighted and self-harming. As is the use of precious resources to revisit debunked claims of links to autism.

The best vaccine isn’t useful if it is not distributed, or not socially accepted. Vaccine equity and hesitancy remain great challenges. Globalizing antivaccine activism could become our greatest hurdle.

It is not time to defund, but rather invest in vaccines.

Vaccines work… and do not cause autism

Vaccines have saved millions of lives, yet their importance and safety is repeatedly in question. W e cannot let disinformation campaigns get in the way of global public health – it is not time to defund, but rather invest in these life-saving tools.

Chromatin Simulated at Physiological Densities

In our research, we used computer simulations to study the 3D organization of chromatin in the cell nucleus. This organization is fundamental to many aspects of cell biology.

We made it onto the cover of today's issue of the Biophysical Journal 😎 https://www.cell.com/biophysj/issue?pii=S0006-3495(23)X0009-5 The image presents #chromatin with randomly distributed nucleosomes along the DNA in periodic boundary conditions that mimic the natural density. Illustration by Tilo Zülske, Leif-Kristof Schultz and Frederic Bauer. We show how the degree of regularity of nucleosome spacing determines the accessibility of the chromatin network for diffusive processes. Whoa! TIL just how widespread Matrix is at universities in Germany.

This, on top of adoption by their national healthcare system and other corners of their public sector.

Our new article has been published in the Biophysical Journal @BiophysJ: "Nucleosome spacing controls chromatin spatial structure and accessibility". We placed a long #nucleosome chain in a box mimicking natural density conditions. We did not see melting of #chromatin fibers at high densities. Accessibility of #chromatin to diffusive processes increases with higher regularity of nucleosome spacing. https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1ijrB1SPT7sCr. #hochschulestralsund #lmumünchen
Guten Morgen meine Damen und Herren, wir begrüßen Sie zur tagesschau!
I am now one happy month of my extended research stay at SISSA in Trieste, Italy in the group of Angelo Rosa. It is a wonderful place for doing research. I am looking forward for the next months.
