De daarvoor benodigde gegevens beheert het KNMI (en andere Europese meteo instituten) sowieso al. Maar tot voor kort mocht het KNMI dus geen vooruitkijkende radarbeelden naar buiten brengen. Dat hadden marktpartijen, die hun producten maken op basis van publieke gegevens, zo bedongen.
