#ThrowbackThursday to the day I saw a red fox in the wild for the very first time. Foxes are not very prominent figures in Canada, especially when compared to the UK when you can spot them fairly easily even in big cities like London. Here, the urban settings are dominated by trash pandas (raccoons). 🙄

Anyway, I didn't have a zoom lens handy (I have a fixed, pancake lens on my camera 90% of the time) but I think the photo still turned up okay.

Any interest in #DonkeysofMastodon? This is Solo. Solo passed away in 2012 at age 25. He was one of the residents of the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada, a great place to visit if you're into cute donkeys and mules.

I took this photo with a vintage Brownie Hawkeye Flash box camera from the 50's. Anyone have one of those?

Home - The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada

Since 1992, the DSC has offered donkeys and mules a lifelong home on 200 acres of rural serenity. Visitors are welcome during seasonal Open Days to experience the sanctuary firsthand.

Anyone remember the "3D" crosswalk in #Iceland that was making the rounds in social media several years back? I went to search for it back in 2019 and found it! I was very reluctant to pose on it but it had to be done! Luckily it wasn't on a super busy street. But then again, this "photo shoot" only lasted a couple of seconds. The crosswalk is located in the port town of #Isafjordur in Iceland's beautiful region of #Westfjords. Photo courtesy of the spousal unit.

I can be such a klutz. I accidentally opened the camera back and exposed the roll of film in it for a second or so. I thought this roll was a goner, but I got this shot out of it. Happy accident, indeed!

My contribution to #SheepofMastodon, because why not. Love these windswept sheep we saw in #Iceland. It was super windy that day (normal day in Iceland, tbh) but no reason to stop grazing! The wind makes these sheep look super fuzzy and, dare I say, cuddly? I doubt they'd smell very nice, though. 🤔
For #TombTuesday, which is apparently a thing, my favourite pair of tombstones at our local cemetery. Mr. Death and Mr. Peace, side by side, for eternity. How poetic is that?

If you're thinking of visiting #Iceland to see #puffins, go to #Latrabjarg cliffs in #Westfjords in mid-June. We enjoyed great weather, small crowd, and saw lots of puffins! My biggest zoom lens isn't the fastest but still took great photos of the birds even though it was already close to 10pm. The golden hour lasts for hours that time of year. It was awesome!

About 12 years ago, someone found 400 rolls of very expired Efke KB21 35mm film and decided to send them to people all over the world for free as part of the Old Film Project on Flickr. I was lucky enough to be one of the recipients. This is one of the shots I took with one of the rolls I received (expiration date on the box was April 1977), developed in Caffenol-C (homebrewed coffee-based developer). The camera used was a Yashica 35MF.

#Photomonday, you say? Well, any excuse to post a photo is a good excuse. Here's an oldie from, gosh, 14 years ago??

Over 11 years ago, I experimented with B&W film development with tea. Surprisingly it wasn't a total failure. Thinking of picking up film developing again, at least for B&W. I'm sure my colour developer chemical kit is long dead. With B&W, all I need is a fresh bottle of fixer. Can develop with tea or coffee.

Anyway, if anyone's interested in my tea developer, I wrote about it here: https://fjordsandfirths.com/4-tea-c-my-own-tea-based-bw-film-developer-recipe/

4-Tea-C: My Own Tea B&W Film Developer Recipe — Fjords & Firths

I’ve seen a rising interest on my tea b&w film developer post lately and realized that I never did post my recipe here. It has been a while since I actually developed a roll of film with it, but this recipe worked when I did use it. Your mileage may vary. Ingredients (to make 500ml): […]
