IBM's 8513 primary power supply side had a heat problem. Sovled it pragmaticaly. More then 15 Watts getting burned in this picture! Very ineffecient, but 80ties!

A restaurated IBM 8513 CRT monitor from 1987 looks like this.

Colonazation with SoundBlaster 16 OPL3 music running on an IBM PS/1. #ibm #soundblaster #opl3 #retrotech #retrocomputing
SoundBlaster 16 CT1740 works just smooth in an IBM PS/1. The CT1740 is a non-PNP with jumpers. I am not sure about IsaPnP and the PS/1. Should not work. #soundblaster #ibm #retrotech #retrocomputing
This IBM 8513 was dirt cheap! 😄

Siemens capacitor from 1987 delivers spot on values. 220µF, Vloss 0.3%, ESR 0.3 Ohm. I'll put it back in the circuit! The connections are somewhat special, but are good for security and durability.

Found this German Siemens capacitor with 220µF and 385V in an old IBM 8513 VGA monitor. It acts as the filter capacitor of the power supply and rates 85° with 20% tolerance. I will replace it, but will keep it in the showcase. #vintage #retrocomputing #retrotech #crt #germany #ibm
The actually SuSE had to be installed from CD, but most computers could not boot from CD, so a boot floppy disk was delivered with the CD-ROM distribution. This SuSE Linux 6.0 Boot disk works btw with LILO the predecessor of GRUB. It is from the year 1998. SuSE was very famous in Germany back in the days. #linux #floppy #vintage #suselinux
This 1991 IBM 7207 external case for 5 1/4'' SCSI devices is the most robust I've seen so far. It is build like a tank and has a tremendous power supply which takes of course 100-240 Volt AC, but also 250 to 370 Volt DC! It delivers almost 80 Watt! You can connect the case with an external SCSI Centronics connector. #ibm #retrotech #powersupply #scsi #retro #vintagecomputing #retrocomputing
