A new android Mastodon app, Fread from @AtomZ

Unique to this app is the ability to merge your mastodon timeline with rss feeds. There seems to be a bluesky integration as well.

The trend for integrating multiple platforms into a single experience continues!

Yup, it's based on OpenAI's Whisper model, and it's run entirely locally on the instance (or through a task runner)
It's surprisingly good! Easily beats YouTube's word salad in my opinion.

#PeerTube #Plugin Spotlight - an infrequent feature

The new automatic transcription feature for PeerTube is great. The whisper transcriber is pretty good, but some errors are inevitable. Many creators don't like having mistakes in their creations though.

@Herover has created a pretty awesome plugin for that.

Are you interested in starting your own #PeerTube server, but it was too complicated and expensive?

There's a new PeerTube managed hosting company with entry level pricing, servers start from $7/month and they will do all the techy stuff for you. More info:

The discount code LAUNCH30TIPS gives the first 10 people six months free on the basic plan.

It's a public beta, feedback welcome at:

(I have no connection to Fedihost, they haven't sponsored me! 🙂)

FediHost - Managed Fediverse Hosting

FediHost is a managed fediverse hosting service. With a couple of clicks you can be up and running with your own Mastodon or Peertube instance.

#PeerTube LiveChat plugin 10.2 is out!

In its latest versions, the plugin added polling support, option to mute anonymous users, OBS dock to interact with the chat directly from OBS, streamer’s task/to-do lists, slow mode and many other new features and performance improvements

Congratulations @John_Livingston

#Peertube is the closest thing to this, as far as I know, and has #rss + #activitypub, but it's not widely adopted. It's also not the simplest (or cheapest) thing to manage on your own.

Monetization, music licensing, moderation are whole other cans of worms too... 🫣

I really hate the term “side-loading.” We shouldn’t need a word for the normal way we’ve been installing apps for the past 40 years. If tomorrow Apple decided they were going to start only letting you visit web pages they approved of, we wouldn’t call some sort of alternating system that let you see *the rest of the fucking internet* “side-paging”. We’d instead call the whole thing bullshit.
