Each year in December, I donate 10% of my net income to charity.

My picks this year:

- **Women's Earth Alliance** https://womensearthalliance.org/, women's empowerment in climate action & adaptation

- **Coalition of Rainforest Nations** https://www.rainforestcoalition.org/ helps communities protect their rainforests, critical for carbon storage, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of indigenous communities

- **Doctors Without Borders** https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/, friends who work in humanitarian aid tell me that Doctors without borders still give medical care after all the other charities leave. See also their recent commitment to stop showing so many white doctors treating patients around the world.

- **Milieudefensie** https://milieudefensie.nl/ pushes for major campaigns and legal actions in NL to protect the environment and challenge fossil-fuel interests

- **Fossil-free NL** https://gofossilfree.org/nl/ another major player in NL, coordinating large campaigns for decarbonizing and divestment across sectors

- **Climate emergency fund** https://www.climateemergencyfund.org/ a network who support many grassroots groups such as @ScientistRebellion

- and finally, my local food bank https://voedselbankleiden.nl/; it's shameful that a rich country like NL has these at all.

Happy holidays and new year folks! ✨

Hey 👋...I just joined neuromatch.social, so I'm re-introducing myself on mastodon-- thanks for stopping by!

I'm an assistant professor of psychological and brain sciences at Dartmouth, and I run a research lab studying the brain network dynamics that support learning and memory.

I really like computational models, deep learning, natural language processing, ed tech, open science, data science, visualization, and neuroimaging. I love coding and puzzles too 🤓!

Wanna learn more about my lab, read our papers, download our software, take our MOOCs, watch our talks, etc.? Check out https://www.context-lab.com/

If you're a grad student, postdoc, or assistant professor, you may also want to take a look at the MIND computational summer school: http://mindsummerschool.org/

Contextual Dynamics Lab

In the Contextual Dynamics Lab, we are interested in how our brains acquire, process, store, and retrieve information about our environment as a function of the current context or situation. We use fancy computational models and powerful neuroimaging techniques to gain insights into these processes.

#introduction

Hi! I'm engaged in #FAIR & #OpenScience, #OpenData, #ResearchDataManagement, #scholarlycommunication and metadata standards, and I'm here to meet others with (some of) those interests.

I have 13 years of experience in facilitating scientific collaboration and building engagement around community (meta)data standards in #neuroscience. My background is in engineering #physics (MSc), #scicomm, #neuroinformatics and #compneuro (PhD).

How literally should you take the correspondence between DNNs and brains? According to St-Yves et al. (2022), not so much. DNNs trained with fMRI account for about as much variance if the DNN-brain mapping is explicitly hierarchical or flat. A potential explanation:

> [...] DNNs are, as a family of models, simply degenerate with respect to many of the properties that visual neuroscientists currently consider interesting and important. Indeed, it is increasingly appreciated that DNNs with widely varying architectures afford similar levels of performance in predicting brain activity.

For my first post here, I want to share this amazing course on the foundation of maths, from logic to differential geometry - which I posted on Twitter long ago. A good intro to manifolds btw.

Happy holidays everyone! All my thoughts with the foreign trainees and others who won't be able to spend time with their family this year.

Here's a little project I've spent about a day on: https://github.com/nipreps/version-schemes

It's a plugin for setuptools_scm to handle a YY.MINOR.PATCH version scheme.

Since I'm starting from scratch, I figured it'd be a good place to hold myself to best practices like type annotations and 100% code coverage, as well as a fully pyproject-based package.
