Hello. I’m a woman in her forties, recently unmoored by divorce and rather reacquainting myself with solitude. I’ve always had a soft spot for the music of the 1980s—something about the melancholy beneath the synth—and I find great comfort in books, particularly those on science and history. There’s something reassuring about facts when life feels so uncertain.
I live alone by the sea, somewhere quietly charming in England, and I work—dutifully, if somewhat wearily—for the civil service. My views lean gently to the left, though I find the current state of discourse rather exhausting.
I’m here simply in search of meaningful conversation. I’ve no interest in unsolicited vulgarity. So yes, just a woman trying to navigate her newfound freedom, perhaps, a flicker of hope for friendship?
In case you missed it, Bluesky is apparently caving to an authoritarian government:

This is why the Fediverse is so important: each Fedi server is totally independent, servers communicate directly with each other, anyone can set up a server anywhere.
Bluesky posts all flow through Bluesky's own corporate relay which is impossible to bypass, making censorship easy.
No one controls the Fediverse

Harvard did not act quickly. But it acted clearly. That clarity must be contagious. Because unless every university in America is ready to say no to federal ideological coercion, this moment will not be a line in the sand. It will be a footnote in the obituary of academic freedom.

Airborne surveying season is over, a vehicle repair bill is eating whatever is left from that (currently a no-vehicle family in regional Australia), and my diary is wide open (read - no income booked).
If you're after a broadly and deeply experienced geospatial and climate system take on things, with a side of psychology (well, 3yr degree) and operational knowhow - reach out. See:
...for the fancy CV.
Australia based, can work globally.
