We're thrilled to announce our new project:
https://docs.coop/

Building on the great work of Suite Numerique (https://docs.numerique.gouv.fr/home/), we are offering an opportunity to be part of a new collaborative Docs platform as a service, that provides an ethical alternative to Google Docs, Office 365, Notion etc.

Docs is the result of a joint effort lead by the French 🥖 (DINUM) and German 🥨 (ZenDiS) governments which represents a paradigm shift in the way open source software is funded.

"Obviously there are a lot of things going on in this example, and every one of them is terrible"

Just started watching Cory Doctorow's keynote from PyCon US. My word, it starts hard.

Gonna pause and come back when I have a proper moment.

Sixteen Organizations Endorse the UN Open Source Principles | Office of Information and Communications Technology

The United Nations Open Source community is proud to announce that 16 leading organizations have the UN Open Source Principles, following the initial endorsement by the Open Source Initiative (OSI), bringing the total to 17.

Nah, don’t worry, it’ll be ok. They’ve been sponsored by Google for years. Even Facebook at one point.

It’s open source… it’s about the source being open. It’s open as in “open for business”.

The “F” in FOSDEM is silent.

It’ll be fine…

I was wrong about Google and Facebook: there’s nothing wrong with them (so say we all)

It’s always difficult admitting you’re wrong. But sometimes, it’s exactly what you have to do in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. So, today, I admit that I was wrong about Google, Facebook, and surveillance capitalism in general being toxic for our human rights and democracy. You see, it simply cannot be true given how they are endorsed by some of the most well-respected groups and organisations in the world.

@flopp thanks!
To be honest, my experience was to first migrate to an event driven architecture. If that's interesting, and worthwhile doing, then event sourcing *might* be the next step.

But from the start? Yeah, I think it's more of an evolution that makes sense later on. There are quite a few "guardrails" that simply are too constraining early on in a project.

Surcoté:
- la motivation
- la discipline

Sous coté:
- écrire son objectif global
- écrire la plus petite action immédiate à accomplir en direction de cet objectif.

Seriously, let a blockchain company have the keynote at FOSDEM ??

No billionaires at FOSDEM

@stevE you know what, better late than never. Somehow I ended up seeing this thread again, and now I understand what you meant 🤦.

Is there enough substance in this question to submit a talk proposal to DjangoCon Europe?

Django as the foundation for a local-first project

After hearing the breathless excitement in this review of the successor to Replicache called Zero, I’m almost ready to throw away all my sensibility and build a full-stack JS app. But there are so many little things that Django does miles better than any option in the JS world. Especially the ORM. Nothing else comes close! Over the years, I have dug my heels in about SPAs and JS-heavy development in general. So much so that my comfort zone is monolithic Django. Learning about all this “full-st...
