@pluralistic Cory, absolutely loved Picks & Shovels. Looking forward to even more Martin Hench in the future.

Not relevant to P&S, but gives me strong vibes of both Eastern Standard Tribe and Walkaway universes: have you ever looked into _Meshtastic_ LoRa networking? (off-grid, low power, open source, mesh text comms)

Meshtastic looks like something that would appear on a Cory Doctorow Venn diagram…

@gruber re: Pebble’s “Apple restricts pebble from being awesome” while I agree this is a little whiny and prob an unhelpful public argument, Apple does have a history of capricious and excessive limitation of Pebble function - including rejecting apps that even _mention_ Pebble interoperability:

@Moltz re: 3D printing software, I settled on FreeCAD … while modestly steep learning curve, the online tutorials are excellent (actually found it easier than Fusion360 to get my head around).

Although it does have a Win95/Linux aesthetic, I’m sick of being locked into proprietary software, file formats (see above for Fusion, which seems to be steadily restricting its free license) and even OS.

FreeCAD runs great on my Mac, but reassuring to know it’d be the same on Linux or Windows…

Why do experts seem less certain than everyone else? (Why is there surging expertise rejection?)

In anaesthesia, embracing uncertainty means knowing what you don't know. We don't control - we adapt, modify, and respond to complex systems.

Exploring how true expertise means being comfortable with complexity and change, and why intellectual humility defines real experts:

The opposite of DEI is NOT "color-blind, hire-the-best-qualified." It's "continue to hire the incompetent white male just because he's a white male." And the entire Trump administration proves that point.
