Because the U.S. government is no longer science based, we are forced to have to inform the public ourselves:
Medical Groups Redouble Efforts on Vaccine, Infectious Disease Recommendations
physician specialty organizations are diving headlong into efforts to inform clinicians and the public about infectious disease, covering everything from the safety of influenza vaccination and who should receive it when to how to respond to ongoing measles outbreaks.
The groups say their vigorous participation is necessary in the face of a resource-strapped CDC, the ongoing limbo status of the agency’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and, in the case of measles, little communication to the public from federal health officials, aside from a weekly update on ever-rising case counts.
With the CDC not doing as much public outreach as in the past, “this is where professional societies have really had to shine and step in,” said Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, MPH, chief executive officer of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), on a call with reporters. “We have never taken quite such an aggressive stance in terms of countering misinformation, getting information out there,” said Marrazzo.
