Winning the crown must be nice, but give me the thrill of finding one of Wales's rarest books on an Eisteddfod stall any day!

Over the moon to *finally* own one of 50 copies ever printed of 'Rhai o Hen Ddewiniaid Cymru' (Some of Wales's Old Conjurers) by J. H. Davies (1901)! 🧙🏻‍♂️

But... this particular copy is of even greater interest, containing extensive handwritten additions and having previously been in the ownership of islander and artist, Sir Kyffin Williams. The book was gifted by him to Annwen Carey-Evans, the High Sheriff of Gwynedd in 1992.

This has been a very good week for books...

Latest acquisition is this fine 1766 edition of Mona Antiqua Restaurata by Rev Henry Rowlands of Llanidan, Ynys Môn. Rowlands's fieldwork of the island's ancient monuments was responsible for popularising Druidic culture in the C18th.

Great Scott! Unbelievably, I've just topped the R. S. Thomas discovery with a surprise stash of letters from pioneering Celtic scholar and first Professor of Celtic at Oxford University, Sir John Rhŷs, tucked away inside a 4th ed. of 'The Welsh People' (1906)! 😱

Thumbing through my copy of 'An Essay on the Welsh Saints' by Rev Rice Rees (1836) this evening when out slid a letter addressed to the previous owner by none other than... R. S. Thomas 😳

The note is penned in Welsh, and touches upon the history of Eglwys Fach, Machynlleth.

Tysa chi wedi gofyn i mi ddyfalu be fyddwn i'n ei wneud heno, nid canfod llythyr gan R. S. Thomas yn un o fy hen lyfrau fyddai'r ateb wedi bod... 📚

Finally finished #editing the proofs for 𝘛𝘏𝘌 #𝘍𝘖𝘓𝘒𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘌 𝘖𝘍 #𝘞𝘈𝘓𝘌𝘚: #𝘎𝘏𝘖𝘚𝘛𝘚!

Checking in on bwgan bolól, the shapeshifting bull of Garthgraban Fawr, and the philanthropic #phantom of Bryn Bachau one last time before the Calon team send them to haunt the printers 👻

Latest arrival at Carreg Wen's #library: a 1st edition volume of Dafydd ap Gwilym's #poetry (1789).

Compiled by Wales's master literary forger and druidic revivalist, #IoloMorganwg, several of the poems included here represent Iolo's own forgeries, rather than the works of the C14th poet.

Probably a good time for another #introduction...

I'm a Welsh #folklorist and #author with expertise in #ghostlore and particular #academic interest in the appearance of #spirits in the Welsh tradition.

I've recently co-authored 'The #Folklore of #Wales: #Ghosts' with researcher and podcast host Mark Norman, which is due out Sep 28 with Calon books.

I'm also an #antiquarian book collector, with a #library of some of Wales's rarest folkloric texts.

#Cymraeg iaith gyntaf; expect a bit of both.

Delivery of another rare parish history this morning with an *entire chapter* dedicated to its 𝘣𝘸𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘥.

𝘉𝘸𝘨𝘢𝘯 is just one word for 'ghost' in Wales, the distinction between terms being tenuous, with angels, demons, fairies and ‘ghosts’ proper often lumped together 👻

🚨After months of blood, sweat and ghouls, I'm incredibly proud to announce that my new book, co-authored with @folklorepod - THE FOLKLORE OF WALES: GHOSTS - is now available to PRE-ORDER from your nearest bookseller! 👻

From treasure-guarding, shapeshifting, fantastical spirits, to ghostly priests, princes and donkeys (and a Ladi Wen or two), we've examined rare, unpublished and untranslated texts to bring you Welsh ghosts as you've never seen them before!

Haunting all bookshops from SEP 28🚨
