@peterbutler @diygene The Bay Trail gets very messy near the bridges to Alameda, and then gets bad again for a few blocks when you leave MLK Shoreline and have to ride on a too-wide, too-fast street near the Oakland airport. Some gaps to fill for sure.
@diygene @peterbutler I agree with everything Gene said. It's worth taking the extra time to go on the Oakland waterfront from Oak St to High Street, where you can get then on the bay trail at the Tidewater boating center. Going through Alameda doesn't really gain you anything, in my opinion. The grey line on your map would be my choice.
BART to Fruitvale then getting into the Bay trail from Fruitvale Ave would be a great option too. You'd avoid almost all city streets but still get to enjoy a ride through the best part of the Bay Trail through MLK Park between High St and Doolittle.

5 blocks later, I caught up to the same black car that had been driving in the bike lane in the first video. It was in the bike lane again, and this time it used the bike lane to bypass the other car traffic, then ran the red light along with a motorcycle. #Oakland #BikeTooter #BikeOAK
This driver should get a bike, apparently it's faster than driving a car on Bancroft Ave at rush hour, even when the driver repeatedly breaks several traffic laws.
