5 blocks later, I caught up to the same black car that had been driving in the bike lane in the first video. It was in the bike lane again, and this time it used the bike lane to bypass the other car traffic, then ran the red light along with a motorcycle. #Oakland #BikeTooter #BikeOAK
This driver should get a bike, apparently it's faster than driving a car on Bancroft Ave at rush hour, even when the driver repeatedly breaks several traffic laws.
The Bancroft Ave bike lane might be the worst in #Oakland, although I'm sure there's some stiff competition. Here, a car in the car lane turns right, while the car driving in the bike lane goes straight. 🤦♂️ #BikeOAK #BikeTooter
Once again: if you think I talk about ebikes and cargo bikes too much, the *universal* feedback from friends post-purchase has been, “I thought you were overselling it, but you were underselling it and you should have pushed me harder.”

#Oakland is getting $8 million to plant trees across the city 🌳🌳🌳
OMG yes please, and thank you. The tree disparities between Oakland's rich neighborhoods and poor neighborhoods are dramatic and alarming, and have major consequences. My street in #EastOakland does not have a single sidewalk tree, because the sidewalks are so narrow. Thankfully there are a decent number of backyard trees on my block, so it's not too bad, but some streets in East and West Oakland are concrete deserts.
Trees do more than cool down neighborhoods and absorb carbon dioxide, they also have amazing social and health affects, building community, reducing violence, reducing pollution, reducing electricity needs in homes and buildings, and improving mental health. Trees are miraculous. We need as many as possible. (Except maybe those damn fire-prone eucalyptus trees.)
